Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced its January 2023 sales figures. The Japanese automaker's Indian subsidiary sold 12,835 units last month, a 175 per cent increase over the same period last year. In January 2022, Toyota sold 7,328 units. Additionally, the company sold 10,421 units in December 2022, a MoM growth of 23% for the firm. Sales growth for Toyota can be attributed to the brand-new Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV. Furthermore, the Toyota Fortuner and the Glanza make significant contributions to the company's overall sales. Commenting on the sales figures for the month of January, Atul Sood, Vice President, Sales and Strategic Marketing – TKM, said, “The calendar year 2022 ended on a positive note for Toyota Kirloskar Motor. As the company clocked the highest wholesale in the last decade, we have stepped into the New Year with much excitement and optimism. Even with month-on-month strong growth of 175%, we anticipate customer demand to gain further momentum this year.”

Dispatches of the Innova Hycross have commenced and we are making strong efforts to meet the ever-growing demand for this product in India. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder also continues to witness healthy demand from our customers. Riding on the enhanced customer demand are our flagship models – Camry, Fortuner, Legender and Vellfire, as they continue to garner good orders,” he added.

Toyota has recently launched the Urban Cruiser Hyryder CNG in India. The car comes in two models, S and G, with ex-showroom prices of Rs 13.23 lakh and Rs 15.29 lakh, respectively. The 1.5-litre K-series engine in the CNG model of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder delivers 87bhp at 5,500rpm and 121.5Nm at 4,200rpm. When running on petrol, the engine churns out 99bhp at 6,000rpm and 136Nm at 4,400rpm. The CNG version has a five-speed manual transmission. The Grand Vitara CNG, the only other midsize SUV with a CNG option, will face stiff competition from the Hyryder CNG. In addition, it will compete in India with midsize SUVs such as the Nissan Kicks, the MG Astor, the Hyundai Creta, the Volkswagen Taigun, and the Kia Seltos.

The exterior of the Toyota Hyryder CNG is identical to that of the petrol version. However, the addition of the CNG badge represents a minor modification. The mid-SUV's interior is now entirely black and, in terms of design, resembles the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara quite a bit. The Baleno and Brezza, as well as other Maruti Suzuki vehicles, share the same dashboard. Soft-touch materials are used on the door pads and padded leather is used on the dash in the interior, which has a dual-tone layout.

The CNG version of the Hyryder includes all of the features found in the NeoDrive variants. The CNG version does not have a gear shift indicator, though. Dark green quarter and window glass, a rear window wiper and washer, machined alloy wheels, LED projector auto headlights, chrome beltline garnish, auto ORVMs, a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Arkamys sound system, side and curtain airbags, and other features are included in the top-tier variant.
