If you are a frequent traveller on a highway, then rejoice as you will soon have a new way to save on tolls. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced a FASTag-based Annual Pass of Rs 3,000 for private vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans, which once activated, will remain in effect for a year or until you've made 200 trips, whichever comes first. It will be available starting from August 15, 2025. It's worth noting that each toll counts as one trip. The new FASTag-based Annual Pass is aimed at making highway travel less of a financial headache for people who drive often and are tired of the constant toll charges.
The new FASTag Annual Pass is a solution for everyday commuters who are frustrated by having to pay tolls just a few kilometres apart. Now, with a one-time payment of Rs 3,000, owners of cars, jeeps, and vans can travel up to 200 times or for an entire year—whichever comes first—without paying tolls each time. There will be no surprise deductions and no delays.

The launch of the FASTag Annual Pass aims to make road travel fairer and more cost-effective for frequent highway users.
It’s worth noting that the soon-to-be launched pass will be valid on National Highways across India. It can be activated or renewed online using a link on the NHAI and MoRTH websites or the Rajmarg Yatra app.

To activate the new annual pass for FASTag, users will need to provide their valid FASTag details, their vehicle's registration number, and complete a few quick verification steps. The pass will be activated only when registered vehicles have a FASTag attached to their windshield.
Users should note that the pass is non-transferable and only valid for the vehicle it's registered to and has the FASTag affixed. Using it on any other vehicle will result in deactivation.
Nitin Gadkari, in his official X (former Twitter) post, highlighted that ‘This policy addresses long-standing concerns regarding toll plazas located within a 60 km range and simplifies toll payments through a single, affordable transaction. By reducing wait times, easing congestion, and minimising disputes at toll plazas, the Annual Pass aims to deliver a faster and smoother travel experience for millions of private vehicle owners.’
Stay tuned for more details, which are expected to be revealed once the final and official Government notice is announced.
