The Tata Punch SUV has crossed a production milestone of over 6 lakh units within four years since its launch in October 2021. It is one of the brand’s best-selling models and is particularly popular among first-time car buyers, who account for 70% of its ICE variant sales. The electric version has also gained traction, especially among women, with 25% of Punch.ev buyers being female. The Punch has built a strong presence across the country, with ownership spread across Tier 1 (24%), Tier 2 (42%), and Tier 3 (34%) markets, which shows its wide appeal in both urban and rural settings. The Tata Punch is crucial to Tata Motors’ success, making up 36% of the company’s total passenger vehicle sales. In FY25, it dominated the sub-compact SUV segment with a strong 38% market share and recorded an impressive 15% growth compared to the previous year. With more than 20 awards under its belt, the Punch has earned its spot as a favourite among Indian drivers and industry experts alike.
In our market, the SUV is available with multiple powertrain options: petrol, CNG, and electric. The petrol-powered ICE model runs on a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine that delivers 84bhp and 113Nm. However, while running on CNG, the output adjusts slightly to 72bhp and 103Nm. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual or an AMT for the petrol variant, while the CNG version comes exclusively with a manual gearbox.

As for the electric variant, the Punch EV comes in two battery configurations: a medium-range 25kWh pack offering 315 kilometres of range, and a long-range 35kWh pack extending up to 421 kilometres of range per charge (MIDC). Both versions use efficient permanent magnet synchronous motors, though the MR model is tuned for moderate performance at 81bhp and 114Nm, accelerating to 100km/h in 13.5 seconds. The LR variant steps up the power to 120bhp and 190Nm, reaching the same speed in a faster 9.5 seconds.
