Toyota is preparing for a bigger role in the Indian car market with a new manufacturing plant in Maharashtra. The company has confirmed that the facility will come up at the Bidkin Industrial Area in Aurangabad, with production set to begin in the first half of 2029. Toyota has been seeing strong demand in India with models like the Innova Hycross, Fortuner and Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and this new plant shows the brand is getting ready for the next stage of growth.
The upcoming Maharashtra facility will have an annual production capacity of one lakh vehicles. Toyota says the plant is also expected to create around 2,800 jobs once operations begin. The factory will handle complete vehicle manufacturing processes including stamping, welding, painting and final assembly.

Apart from supplying cars for the Indian market, the new plant will also support exports to nearby international markets. This means vehicles built in Maharashtra could eventually be seen on roads outside India as well. The new facility will become Toyota’s third manufacturing plant in the country.
Currently, Toyota operates two production plants in Bidadi, Karnataka, with a combined capacity of around 3.42 lakh vehicles every year. Adding another plant will give the company more flexibility to increase production as demand continues to grow across segments.
Toyota has confirmed that the first vehicle to roll out from the Maharashtra facility will be an SUV, although the company has not revealed the model yet. SUVs continue to dominate the Indian market, and almost every major carmaker is expanding its lineup to keep up with demand.
Whether it is compact SUVs for city buyers or larger three-row family cars, the segment remains strong across price ranges. With the new plant expected to start operations in 2029, Toyota seems ready to double down on SUVs and strengthen its presence in India.
