Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Waiting Period Stretches up to 20 Months in India

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is available with two engine options - a strong hybrid and a mild hybrid, both paired with petrol engines. It rivals the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, the Hyundai Creta, the Volkswagen Taigun, and the Skoda Kushaq.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder currently has a waiting period of up to 20 months. It has received an overwhelming response from customers since its launch in September last year. A few days before its launch, the demand for the Urban Cruiser Hyryder picked up considerably, and the waiting period for the car jumped up to 6 months. As of now, it has a waiting period of up to 20 months. The mid-size SUV is available with two engine options – a strong hybrid and a mild hybrid – both of which are paired with petrol engines. Apart from these, it offers a CNG powertrain as well. It has been developed jointly with Maruti Suzuki and is based on Maruti Suzuki's Global-C platform. Consequently, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara have common underpinnings, powertrains, and features.

The long waiting period for the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder can be attributed to its growing demand and popularity. It is claimed to have a maximum waiting period of 20 months for the hybrid variants, while the Hyryder NeoDrive variants have a waiting period of around 7 months. 

But that's not all, the company's other models, including the Innova Hycross and the Innova Crysta diesel, also have long waiting periods. Buyers need to wait for about 26 months (2 years) for the delivery of the Innova Hycross and around 3 to 4 months for the Innova Crysta. 

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder: Powertrain

As mentioned earlier, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder can be had either with a mild-hybrid powertrain or a strong-hybrid system. The SUV's mild-hybrid version uses a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, which produces a maximum power of 102bhp and a peak torque of 136Nm. This engine is paired with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. 

On the other hand, a 1.5-litre three-pot strong-hybrid engine generates 92bhp of the maximum power and 122Nm of peak torque. An eCVT gearbox is available for this engine. 

The CNG variant of the Hyryder is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder K12C engine, which delivers a maximum power output of 87bhp and 121.5Nm of torque. This engine is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder: Price, Rivals

The strong-hybrid Hyryder has a total of 4 variants – E, S, G, and V. It currently retails between Rs10.48 and Rs 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The strong-hybrid Hyryder is offered in 3 trims – S, G, and V. The powerful hybrid variants have a starting price of Rs 15.61 lakh (ex-showroom).

As for the competition, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder takes on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq.
