Michelin has announced that it will take over as the sole tyre supplier for the FIM Superbike World Championship, starting in 2027 and continuing until 2031, replacing Pirelli. After its long stint as sole tyre supplier for the MotoGP series, the French firm now plans to use that racing know-how to build tyres for the production-based racing machines that compete in WorldSBK.

Matthieu Bonardel, Director of Michelin Motorsport, said: 'We are very pleased to be able to commit so quickly to a world-class motorcycle racing championship starting in 2027.
'The WorldSBK offers an ideal environment to bring our technologies even closer to those used by all riders, whether on the track or on the road. The audience of this championship is mainly made up of enthusiasts who own super sport motorcycles. For them, we will do everything possible to deliver high-quality entertainment, supported by tyres with outstanding performance.'

The decision to move into WorldSBK fits neatly into Michelin's wider goal of streaming new track ideas straight into everyday products. Because the superbikes used in WSBK are only highly tuned versions of off-the-shelf models, the series offers Michelin an ideal test bed where their tyres can be pushed to the limits, refined and released for the public.
