BMW S 1000 XR Highlights
Now in its second-generation, the S 1000 XR replaces its namesake predecessor in BMW Motorrad’s product portfolio for the Indian market. As per BMW, the 2020 S 1000 XR is an all-new model that’s built a new engine, frame and bodywork along with a host of electronic equipment from scratch.
For the uninitiated, the bike you see above is the maker’s internationally best-selling adventure tourer, which, in our opinion, is the perfect weekend getaway tool for avid adventure motorcyclists.
On the styling front, BMW has made sure the new S 1000 XR looks the part thanks to its aggressive and purposeful design. As for the dimensions, the adventure tourer is 2,183mm in length, 940mm in width, and 1,408mm in height. Moreover, it has a wheelbase of 1,548mm, fuel tank capacity of 20-litres, and it weighs 226kg.
Engine & Transmission
At the heart of the BMW S 1000 XR is a new 999cc in-line four-cylinder BS-VI compliant motor, good for 163bhp and 114Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. As for the fuel efficiency, the BMW S 1000 XR mileage is expected to be around 20km/l.
As for the mechanical parts, the S 1000 XR rides on 45mm front USD forks and a rear monoshock. The motorcycle is built around an aluminium composite bridge frame. Moreover, the 17-inch wheels are shod with a 120/70 ZR 17 tyre at the front and a 190/55 ZR 17 tyre at the back. The braking duties, lastly, are followed by a dual 320mm disc at the front and a 265mm disc at the rear.
The BMW S 1000 XR new model comes well kitted, as it gets several new-age electronics. It comes with customizable traction control, throttle response, ABS and wheelie control settings in addition to Hill Start Control and DTC. Moreover, it also comes with four riding modes as standard - Rain, Road, Dynamic and Dynamic Pro. The headlamps and taillamp are both fitted with LEDs. Lastly, all the electronics are backed up by a 6.5-inch, full-colour TFT display.
