Does it take the form of the rugged, easy-going nostalgia of the Royal Enfield Scram 440, or the tall, sharp, and tech-laden aggression of the TVS Apache RTX?</p><p>If you are looking for a motorcycle that can handle the office commute on Monday and a dusty trail on Sunday, both of these machines have probably found their way to your shortlist. I spent time with both to see which one truly earns that elusive ‘one bike that can do it all’ spot in your garage.</p>

<p>Let’s talk aesthetics first. The Scram 440 seems like something that’s stepped straight off a Mad Max set – chunky, rugged, and carrying that effortlessly cool uncle vibe. It doesn’t try too hard to be a modern ADV; instead, it embraces its scrambler roots with the kind of honest toughness that feels almost indestructible.</p><p>

With its tall windscreen, sharp LED lighting, and broad stance, it could easily pass for something ready for the Dakar. There's also no getting away from the fact that its designers did take inspiration from big, premium European ADVs, but I think they have done a good job with the final execution. While the Scram feels like a protagonist’s DIY ride in a zombie apocalypse film, the RTX feels like a precision tool purpose-built by engineers.</p>







<h2>TVS Apache RTX vs Royal Enfield Scram 440: Ergonomics and Comfort</h2>

<p>The way you interact with these two motorcycles is fundamentally different. On the Scram 440, you sit in the motorcycle. With a very approachable seat height of 795mm, almost anyone can flat foot it, which immediately inspires confidence. The handlebars are tall, the position is relaxed, and it feels incredibly natural for darting through city traffic.</p><p>

    </p><p>However, once you stand up to tackle a trail, you notice the side panels are a bit too wide, making it difficult to grip the tank securely. Our media unit even had visible scuff marks on its side panels – likely from boots constantly brushing against them while trying to grip it tightly.</p><p>The Apache RTX, by contrast, puts you on the motorcycle. With a taller 855mm seat height, it can be intimidating for shorter riders. But once you start moving, the ergonomics feel far more focused. The inseam is narrower than the Scram’s, and for someone like me – who prefers standing and muscling a bike through dirt – the RTX offers much better leverage and control.</p><p>

<p>A quick note on weight: the Scram is the heavier machine at 196kg, compared to the RTX’s 180kg. Yet the Scram carries its weight low, which makes it feel planted and stable. The RTX, meanwhile, feels a touch top-heavy, turning slow-speed U-turns into a bit of a leg workout. However, that lighter kerb weight and top-heavy weight distribution give you more confidence to take the RTX off-road, compared to the Scram, which can seem slightly lethargic and heavy-footed when it comes to getting over obstacles and hurdles.</p>

<h2>TVS Apache RTX vs Royal Enfield Scram 440 - Features and Technology</h2>

<p>This is where the Scram 440 feels properly outgunned. Royal Enfield has kept things simple and honest.</p><p>

It’s focused and functional, but it won’t exactly set your tech pulse racing.</p><p>TVS, however, has taken the opposite approach – throwing in everything, including the proverbial kitchen sink. </p><p>

    </p><p>The RTX comes loaded with a 5-inch colour TFT screen, four ride modes, cruise control, a quickshifter, and traction control – all for around Rs 2.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It’s essentially a smartphone on two wheels with a rugged outer casing.</p>







<p>That said, here’s the journalist in me playing devil’s advocate: do you really need four ride modes on a 35bhp motorcycle? Out in the middle of nowhere, more technology often means more things that might go wrong. In that sense, the Scram’s simplicity feels like its strength – you can fix it with a bit of jugaad and a wrench. The RTX offers you that ‘wow’ factor, but the Scram delivers a tad better peace of mind for nomadic travels.</p>

<h2>TVS Apache RTX vs Royal Enfield Scram 440 - Engine and Performance</h2>

<p>The engines of these two bikes are as different as chalk and cheese. The Scram 440 feels like the tractor of the scrambler world – and I mean that as the highest compliment.</p><p>

You could leave it in third all day in the city, and it won’t complain. It’s all about riding the wave of torque rather than chasing the redline.</p><p>The Apache RTX, by contrast, features a brand-new 300cc liquid-cooled engine producing 35.5bhp. It’s peppy and engaging, but it demands a bit of work.</p><p>

    </p><p> Below 6,000rpm, it feels almost sleepy; cross that threshold, however, and it wakes up with decisive intent. It’s the faster motorcycle of the two, but it rewards the aggressive rider who can work harder at keeping it in the right powerband.</p>







<p>In terms of refinement, neither is perfect. The RTX suffers from a high-frequency buzz through the pegs and bars, which can numb your hands during long highway rides. The Scram has more pronounced vibrations, but they feel more like character rather than annoyance – although if you’re switching over to the RE from a Japanese bike, you’ll definitely notice them.</p>

<h2>TVS Apache RTX vs Royal Enfield Scram 440 - Ride and Off-Road Performance</h2>

<p>On the road, the Scram 440 rides like a stiff roadster. While it’s confident around corners, its suspension can feel a bit harsh over sharp bumps. Off-road, at low speeds, its low-end grunt helps it chug over almost any obstacle. But try jumping it, and you’ll hear that dreaded clack as the suspension bottoms out.</p><p>

It slices through urban traffic with agility and feels like the more sophisticated package when the tarmac runs out. While the Scram survives the trail, the RTX attacks it decisively.</p>







<h2>TVS Apache RTX vs Royal Enfield Scram 440 Review Verdict</h2>

<p>So, which one deserves your money?</p>

<p>The Scram 440 is the niche option. It’s friendly, torquey and carries that timeless ruggedness Royal Enfield fans adore. If you value nostalgia and mechanical simplicity over fast trails and tech fests, this is your bike.</p><p>

<p>As for me, if I’m trail hunting on Sundays and commuting on Mondays, I’ll opt for the Apache RTX. It’s the bike that makes me feel like a better rider – even if it means waiting three months for delivery while TVS ramps up production.</p><p>

Two bikes, one garage spot – the Royal Enfield Scram 440 and TVS Apache RTX promise to do it all. But which one truly deserves it?

<p>The Royal&nbsp;Enfield Himalayan 450 has been modified into a more hardcore, rally-inspired machine by UK-based dealership Cooperb Motorcycles.&nbsp;Called the Phantom Edition, the bike keeps the Sherpa-powered heart of the standard Himalayan, but adds a multitude of upgrades for a more serious off-road experience.&nbsp;The Phantom Edition carries a starting price of £10,299 (approximately Rs 13 lakh).&nbsp;That’s about Rs 9.94 lakh higher than the India-spec <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/royal-enfield/himalayan-450/">Royal Enfield Himalayan 450</a>,&nbsp;which starts at Rs 3.06 lakh. For reference, the standard Himalayan in the UK starts at £5,750.&nbsp;Let’s take a closer look at all the updates. </p><h2><strong>Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Phantom Edition: What’s Different?</strong></h2><p>One of the major upgrades on the Phantom Edition is its revised suspension setup. Meanwhile, exports stood at 9,657 units, a marginal decline of 2% from 9,871 units exported in February 2025.&nbsp;In terms of year-to-date (YTD) sales, overall volumes rose 24%&nbsp;to 11.26 lakh units from 9.09 lakh units sold in the same period last year.&nbsp;Royal Enfield recorded domestic sales of 10.07 lakh units,&nbsp;marking a 24% growth. Meanwhile, overseas shipments increased to 1.19 lakh units, registering a 27% year-on-year rise.</p><p>Speaking about the performance for February 2026, B. On the move, both machines offer plenty of grunt and can get off the line with a similar sense of urgency. Also, both are almost equally fun to ride.</p>

<p>Larger-capacity engines tend to produce more heat, which can be especially problematic in traffic. Having experienced the 650cc parallel-twin in various RE motorcycles, I must say that heat management isn’t exactly its strong suit. And given the unforgiving nature of Indian summers, it’s something to be wary of.</p>

<p>Initially, I was of the impression that the Tuono would win this battle, but that’s not exactly the case. Its smaller displacement liquid-cooled engine should have fared better than the Continental GT’s air- and oil-cooled engine. </p>
<p>

    However, that did not happen. The Tuono, too, gets a bit too hot when you are stuck in traffic for long durations. So, there is no real winner here. That said, the Continental GT’s design places the rider’s leg closer to the engine, making incidental contact with it more likely.

    Weight Comparison &amp; Handling: 175kg vs 214kg
</h2>
<p>Weight can be a real point of concern, especially for those riding a bigger bike for the first time. After all, the last thing you want is a bike that’s too heavy for you to handle. At 214kgs, the Continental GT is undeniably hefty, and you can feel all that weight. The Tuono 457, on the other hand, weighs much less – 175kgs to be precise. Consequently, it feels noticeably easier to manoeuvre, especially at parking speeds and in tight spaces.

    Riding Position, Seat Height &amp; Comfort Differences
</h2>
<p>In terms of ergonomics, the Tuono 457 offers a more relaxed riding position than the RS 457. The tube-type handlebars sit higher and are wider, resulting in a more upright posture.</p>

<p>That said, the rear-set footpegs still require you to lean slightly forward. With a seat height of 800mm – 20mm lower than that of the Continental GT – the Tuono should, in theory, feel more accessible. Still, in practice, I found it more difficult to mount and dismount because of the higher pillion seat.</p>

    The Continental GT comes with clip-ons, placing the rider in a more aggressive position, albeit not to an extreme degree.</p>

<p>The real distinction between the two lies in seat design. While both bikes have relatively firm cushioning, the Continental GT’s flatter seat does not push you towards the tank like the Tuono 457’s slanted seat.

    In terms of suspension, the Tuono 457 feels stiffer than the Continental GT. The twin rear springs of the Continental GT do a better job of absorbing road imperfections. This, combined with relaxed ergonomics, makes the Continental GT feel more comfortable to ride in the city.</p>

<p>The Tuono 457 has an edge in this department, for it comes with a 5-inch coloured TFT instrument cluster. The Continental GT, on the other hand, features two analogue dials and a small, monochrome LCD display.</p>

<p>While the aesthetics of the analogue dials have a certain visual charm, the Tuono’s modern interface offers far more information. The screen is crisp, easy to read at a glance, and supported by a well-designed, intuitive UI. In fact, it’s one of the better displays in the segment. </p>

    In terms of electronic safety features, the Continental GT adopts a minimalist approach. Apart from dual-channel ABS, there is little in the way of electronic assistance. The Tuono, on the other hand, benefits from a ride-by-wire system, three riding modes, traction control modes, and the option to disable the traction control and rear ABS. All this not only enhances rider engagement but also makes the Tuono a more reassuring choice for beginners.

    After-Sales Service &amp; Ownership Experience in India
</h2>
<p>When it comes to the buying experience, Royal Enfield clearly has an advantage in India – you are far more likely to stumble across an RE showroom than an Aprilia showroom. The Italian company’s presence is not as widespread. So, even when it comes to servicing and part availability, the Continental will be easier to live with over the long term.</p>

<p>Also, I have come across reports from some Aprilia customers who were dissatisfied with their service experience. That said, Royal Enfield bikes are not immune to mechanical issues either. So, while troubleshooting might be tricky for both bikes, the fact that there are more RE showrooms and bikes on the road tilts the balance in favour of the Continental GT.

    Price Comparison &amp; Final Verdict: Which Twin Should You Buy?
</h2>
<p>Finally, there is the matter of price. The Continental GT starts at Rs 3.50 lakh (ex-showroom), and even with the better-equipped variant featuring LED lighting and alloy wheels, it will cost Rs 3.71 lakh (ex-showroom). The Tuono, by comparison, commands a premium of about Rs 50,000 over the base Continental – a sizable difference in the segment.</p>

<p>For those who want a big-displacement engine at a relatively accessible price point, the Continental makes a lot of sense. It may lack modern, fancy features, but this does little to detract from the riding experience. It is also perfect for enthusiasts who prefer bikes with fewer electronic interventions. What’s more, even with its price out of the equation, the Continental is still an appealing proposition, thanks to its ergonomics, a timeless, proven engine, and fantastic styling.</p>

<p>The Tuono 457, while more expensive, offers additional features that justify its premium price. Its preload-adjustable suspension makes it a motorcycle you can grow with, adapting as your skills improve. It can also switch from road to track mode in the blink of an eye. The lighter weight, nimbler handling, and loads of raw power make it a super fun bike to ride. If I were in the market for my first twin-cylinder motorcycle, I would definitely pick the Tuono, although I would almost certainly replace that annoying seat with something a bit more comfortable for daily use.</p>

Aprilia Tuono 457 vs Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 – Twin-Cylinder Showdown

Two very different takes on the twin-cylinder formula. One chases tech and agility, the other banks on character and heritage — which wins?

<p>Royal Enfield sold 1.04 lakh units overall, marking a 14% jump from 91,132 units sold in the same month last year.&nbsp;Compared to December 2025, the increase was modest, with sales up by just 0.72%. While the sales in the domestic market stood at 93,781 units,&nbsp;showing a 16% rise over 81,052 units sold in January 2025, the exports grew 5% year-on-year to reach 10,541 units, from 10,080 units. In the year-to-date period of 2026-25,&nbsp;Royal Enfield reported total sales of 10.25 lakh units, a gain of 25%&nbsp;from 8.18 lakh units sold in the same period last year. Domestic sales reached 9.16 lakh units,&nbsp;marking a 25% increase over 7.34 lakh units, while exports rose&nbsp;30% to 1.10 lakh units from 84,301 units a year ago.</p><p>Speaking about the performance for January 2026, B. Govindarajan, Managing Director - Eicher Motors Ltd. and Chief Executive Officer - Royal Enfield, said, 'The new year has begun on a positive note for Royal Enfield-  extending the strong momentum from the previous quarter and marking four consecutive months of healthy double-digit growth. We have crossed 1 million motorcycle sales in this financial year across the globe, and also crossed&nbsp;100,000 motorcycle sales in exports. Royal Enfield Records 14% Year-on-Year Growth, Sells 1.04 Lakh Units in January

Royal Enfield sold 1.04 lakh units overall in the month of January 2026, registering a growth of 14% over the 91,132 units sold in the same month last year.

<p>The Himalayan was at one point one of the most anticipated bike launches in 2016. Everyone was very eager to see this brand new adventure touring model from the legendary Indian motorcycle manufacturer. However, even though the hype was intense, the fact of the matter was that the Himalayan had quite a few reliability issues. Soon after its launch a large number of reports began pouring in from customers all over the country who were not very happy with the bike. Weather it was loose components, chassis issues or even electrical problems, the Himalayan had a pretty rough ride, despite decent sales figures.</p>

<p>To address the rise in customer complaints about the Himalayan, Royal Enfield had no choice but to discontinue the sale of the Himalayan, but they weren’t done with the bike. Instead of backing out completely, they went back to work to make the bike better and rectify the previous errors. The result is the new and improved Himalayan.</p>

<p>I had a lot of issues with the Himalayan when I first rode it, and therefore I was eager to see just what RE had done to the new model. The first and most important thing of course is that it’s now fuel injected. So the carburettor is no longer needed. There are some other minor updates as well, such as the use of better components, but everything else remains the same. The headlight is also an always-on (AHO) unit now.</p>

<p>I won’t get into the design because I am still not a fan, and also because nothing has been changed in that department. However, I will say this – the fuel injection really helps… a lot!</p>

<p>The overall refinement of the 410cc engine feels far better than the carburetted engine. The throttle response has also improved tremendously. This all makes a big difference especially when you are riding in an urban setting. In fact, I hadn’t ridden the Himalayan on streets for much time before, but after spending a couple of days with the bike in Delhi, I was immensely impressed with the way it performed. RE even mentioned at the time of the bike’s launch in 2016 that the Himalayan has also been designed to take on India’s nightmarish city streets, and I certainly agree with this. While most of my previous riding was off-road, this time I spent a lot of time in the city, and I really think it’s one of the best bikes you can get in that price range for the city. It is certainly the most comfortable, thanks to its high seat and wide handlebars. The bike has also got plenty of torque down in the revs and a very good mid-range.</p>

<p>Despite its bulky and heavy body, it picks up speed very well now. It was very surprising how fun it was in the city. The bike always feels well planted, and the front-end is nice and light yet firm, which allows for sharp steering inputs. The turning radius is also really good, and it’s great when you are stuck in a jam or if you need to make tight U-turns.</p>

<p>What’s still not good though are the brakes, the engine stress and vibrations at higher speeds. Yes, the engine is far better refined now, but once you cross 110km/h you can feel the vibes, albeit it’s much better than the previous model.</p>

<p>So RE has really done a good job to improve the Himalayan and address the customer issues that popped up in the past. The Himalayan is now better than ever, and although it’s far from being a perfect motorcycle, it does what it was designed to do perfectly fine.</p>
