Triumph Speed Twin Highlights
The Speed Twin is a cross between the Street Twin and the Thruxton R. Imagine the accessibility of a Street Twin and the performance of a Thruxton R, that’s what the Speed Twin claims to be, after a long three years of development. On the design front, the Speed Twin is a striking, sporty and muscular Triumph, and the brushed aluminium bits, heel guards, side panels and the throttle body covers retain the contemporary feel of a Bonneville. The name has been borrowed from the 1938 Triumph Speed Twin.
Exterior Details
The Speed Twin is a striking motorcycle with retro Bonneville design language and a name that harks back to 1938. The Speed Twin is dimensionally identical to the Street Twin at 760mm width and 1,110mm of height. The fuel tank has a holding capacity of 14.5-litres.
Engine & Transmission
The Triumph Speed Twin comes powered by a 1,200cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin motor, which churns out 96bhp and 112Nm of torque. The engine has a strong low-end and mid-range punch and over 100Nm of torque is available from just 2,000rpm. The six-speed gearbox is smooth and precise and it comes mated to a torque-assist clutch. The Triumph Speed Twin mileage, as per the maker, is rated at 19km/l.
Handling
The Triumph Speed Twin is easier to ride than the Thruxton R, thanks to the upright riding position. The 41mm cartridge forks at the front and twin shocks with adjustable preload at the rear complement the tubular steel with aluminium cradle chassis for tighter handling. The Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tyres with a 120/70 ZR17 profile at the front and a 160/60 ZR17 profile at the back ensure decent levels of grip around corners and bends. The braking power comes from dual 305mm discs at the front and a 220mm disc at the back.
Features
The Triumph Speed Twin new model, in typical Triumph fashion, comes loaded with a decent electronics package. For starters, you get ABS, switchable traction control, torque-assist clutch, immobiliser, twin clocks, ride by wire technology and three riding modes – Road, Rain and Sport – as standard across the range. The instrument cluster is a twin-pod unit, comprising an analogue speedometer and a tachometer accompanied by twin displays for various other riding information. The headlamp and the tail lamp are fitted with LEDs.
Price & Variants
The Triumph Speed Twin comes in a single variant. The Triumph Speed Twin price (as of mid-2020) is ₹9.46 lakh for the Standard variant. The Triumph Speed Twin comes with a standard 2-year warranty from Triumph. For the Triumph Speed Twin on-road price, be sure to check our price section.
