UM Motorcycles (United Motors) is an
American motorcycle brand headquartered in Miami, Florida. It was registered
with the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office by its founders, the Villegas Family,
in the early 2000s. UM's young history is marked by the family's patriarch, Mr.
Octavio Villegas Llano. Since his early years, he dreamt of creating
transportation possibilities.
He was a great entrepreneur, already
working in the field of automotive plants and vehicle distribution via UM. He
was inspired by the precarious living conditions of the Latin American population
of the mid-20th century. Therefore, Mr. Villegas always worked towards
providing affordable transportation products and opportunities to the low and
mid-income population. He did it with the hope of changing their lives. These
values continue to drive the culture at UM to this day.
UM has always been on the forefront
of providing world-class technology to its customers at affordable prices.
Consequently, key innovations such as the LED 360 safety system, SAM and the UM
ComfortGel Seat have been created. The UM’s engineers and designers worked with
the aim of making a customer’s riding experience safer and more comfortable.
In
2014, UM Two Wheeler unveiled its motorcycles in India at the 2014 Auto Expo.
It expressed its desire to establish itself in the Indian two-wheeler industry.
Subsequently, UM International, LLC and Lohia Auto Industries of India joined
hands in September 2014. They formed UM Lohia Two Wheelers Private Limited
(UML). By 2016, UML commenced operations in India by launching its motorcycles
at the 2016 edition of the Auto Expo. UML opened its Indian innings with its
Renegade range of motorcycles. The first UM motorcycles offered in India were
the Renegade Sport S, Renegade Commando, and the Renegade Classic. The bikes
are assembled at Lohia Auto’s Uttarakhand facility. The range of UM bikes, ever
sold in India, consists of the Renegade Sports S, the Renegade Commando, the Renegade
Mojave, and the Renegade Classic, among others.
