<p>I always prefer a BMW, and 5-Series is the best. BMWs drive really well. In Audi company, I like only TT and R8 supercar. All other cars in the range are not to my liking.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Rear seat comfort is excellent. And climate control is there for rear occupants. Leather upholstery is fantastic and I found that AC cools the cabin so quickly.&nbsp;</p>

<p>2019 A6 looks very modern and stylish. In all luxury cars, I think I would prefer this one. Features are definitely going to be good. And engines offered also will be powerful.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After years of discussions, India and the European Union have finally agreed on a free trade deal, and this one has caught the attention of car buyers and auto industry watchers. The reason is simple. Europe builds many of the cars Indians want, while India remains one of the toughest markets in the world for imports due to high duties. The India–EU FTA aims to ease trade between both sides by cutting tariffs and simplifying regulations. For the auto sector, this could slowly change how European cars enter India. The agreement is expected to take effect from 2027. Under the newly concluded India–EU Free Trade Agreement, these tariffs will come down to 10 per cent under an annual quota of 250,000 vehicles. The deal, finalised after nearly two decades of negotiations, sets a clear framework for European car imports while keeping volumes under control.</p><p>One thing worth keeping in mind is that the lower tariff applies only to cars built in Europe. If a model is manufactured outside the EU, it will not get the benefit even if it wears a European badge. Take BMW for example. The M2 is built in Mexico, while the XM and X6 are manufactured in the USA, which means these models will not fall under the reduced duty structure.</p><h2>What does this Mean for Car Prices in India</h2><p>Lower import duties will bring down the landing cost, especially for fully imported models. Final pricing will still depend on brand strategy, exchange rates and state taxes. So while price drops may not happen overnight, the gap between imported and locally built cars is will shrink over time, giving buyers more choice and better value in the premium segment.</p><h2>Carmakers may Rethink their India Strategy</h2><p>The trade deal could push European brands to take a fresh look at their India plans after the tariff drop. With lower duties, it becomes easier to bring in more models and rethink pricing for the market. Some manufacturers may still prefer local assembly to keep costs in check, but the FTA gives brands more room when planning investments and future launches.</p><h2>Local Manufacturing and Suppliers Stay in Focus</h2><p>Indian component makers may face added competition, but there is also an opportunity. If more brands increase assembly operations, demand for&nbsp;locally sourced parts could rise. Suppliers that meet EU standards may even gain export access. Safeguard clauses in the agreement allow the government to step in if imports grow too fast, keeping local manufacturing protected as the deal is rolled out in phases.</p>

Under the India-EU free trade agreement, import duties on cars and bikes from BMW, Ducati, Mercedes-Benz and Audi will fall from 110% to 10% under a 250000 vehicle quota.

Even so, if approved, the agreement could reshape the premium segment and make Euro-built cars and bikes a more common sight on Indian roads.</p>

    <strong>We’ve described the RS Q8 as ‘a Lamborghini Urus Performante in a Boss suit.’ Is that an accurate description?</strong>
</p>

<p>I wouldn’t like to align this car with any other brand, even if it is within our Group. What matters most is how our customers perceive it. We have sold many units, and most of the allocations are booked even before they arrive in India. Customers who want these cars are highly performance-oriented, but also don’t want to compromise on luxury. The RS Q8 offers that balance along with day-to-day usability. You don’t have to wait for the weekend to drive it. The thrill is always at your fingertips.</p>

<p>
    <strong>Your portfolio is aging in India, but internationally you’ve introduced the A5, Q5 and A6. When can we expect these new models in India?</strong>
</p>

<p>It’s always a matter of time, and I can’t disclose specific timelines right now. Our focus is to serve customers with the current portfolio in the best possible way. New products will come as part of the normal lifecycle. Some lines are at the end of their cycle, and we are waiting for new products to get homologated and ready for India. Many will also be manufactured locally. You will see announcements in the next few months.</p>

<p>
    <strong>Globally, it’s a difficult time. EV adoption is uncertain. How does Audi navigate this tricky environment?</strong>
</p>

<p>Times are changing, and EV penetration projections have shifted from what they were three years ago. The most important thing for us is agility. To align ourselves with evolving customer needs. We must balance Indian market demands with global long-term strategies and research investments. Tough times push us to look inward and innovate. We’re confident we will come out stronger.</p>



<p>
    <strong>With AI becoming central to business, how is Audi integrating AI into its operations?</strong>
</p>

<p>AI is everywhere, and we are evaluating what tools to use. It will help especially with data management, improving how we use existing data that previously depended on legacy systems. Cars won’t become ‘AI,’ but they will become more intelligent. From a sales and marketing perspective, AI will enhance data intelligence, feedback collection, digitisation and process optimisation. We’re implementing it in small steps, and it will strengthen us without changing who we are.</p>

    <strong>Is E20 fuel a point of concern, especially for older audi cars?</strong>
</p>

<p>From April 2020, our entire portfolio is material-compliant with E20. Before that, many of our cars were diesel, so we don’t see major challenges. Concerns are mostly about perception in regards to the potential impact to fuel efficiency. It’s early days, but we haven’t seen significant issues. Customer concerns are addressed based on our testing and knowledge.</p>

    <strong>How has the Indian luxury car customer evolved over the years?</strong>
</p>

<p>The change has been massive. The average age has dropped. 42% of our buyers are under 40, and if we extend that to 50 years, it’s over 70%. Earlier, the segment was chauffeur-driven, now most buyers want to drive themselves. Women buyers have increased significantly, from almost none about 10-15 years ago to 11-12% today. Ownership is becoming experience-driven. EV acceptability is good because most luxury cars are city-driven. There’s also a cultural shift from saving to spending, accelerated by the pandemic.</p>

    <strong>What are your plans for 2026?</strong>
</p>

<p>The industry has been stagnant, around 50,000 units sold, with fluctuations. GST rationalisation will give a positive push. We must widen the bottom of the luxury pyramid and attract new buyers. The gap between non-luxury and luxury pricing is narrowing, creating new and exciting opportunities. Challenges like forex fluctuations remain. <p>Audi has unveiled the new AUDI E SUV concept at the Guangzhou Auto Show. This is the second model from the AUDI sub-brand made for China. The concept previews the upcoming AUDI E8 SUV that will enter production in early 2026. Audi is expanding its electric vehicle plans in China with support from its partnerships with FAW and SAIC. </p><p>The company introduced five models in China in the second half of 2025 and plans more launches in 2026. The <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/audi/">AUDI </a>sub-brand has also seen strong demand, with the E5 Sportback crossing 10,000 preorders within thirty minutes of its reveal. To ensure fairness, all jury scores were averaged, while the BIC pushed each machine&nbsp;to its limits, revealing strengths and weaknesses alike. In the end, ten winners emerged:&nbsp;eight vehicles earned the prestigious ‘Best of 2025’ title, while two record-breaking performers were crowned Performance Car of the Year and Performance Bike of the Year.&nbsp;Let’s take a closer look at our ‘Best of 2025’.</p><h2>Who Chooses the 'Best of 2025'?</h2><p>The autoX Awards 2025 follow a simple and clear testing process. A team of road testers with over 100 years of combined experience scores each vehicle across key parameters. All scores are then averaged, which keeps the results fair and transparent.</p><p>For performance runs, autox Editor-in-Chief and part-time racer Dhruv Behl records lap times for cars. The new hollow swing-arm and lighter frame also improve the stance. Ducati has tucked the foot-rests in by 10mm to help with lean angle on track. <p>It’s the most powerful ICE car ever to come out of Ingolstadt, and since it wears the RS badge, it obviously goes like stink. Need proof? It currently holds the Nürburgring Nordschleife record for the fastest production SUV, with a lap time of 7:36.7 – faster than some of your bedroom-poster icons like the Lexus LFA, Ferrari 430 Scuderia, and Lamborghini Murciélago SV.</p><p>With a resume that strong, we expected the RS Q8 Performance to be among the fastest cars in our test. What we didn’t expect was for it to absolutely annihilate the competition, which included the Aston Martin DBX 707, BMW M5, Mercedes-AMG CLE 53, and Porsche Macan Turbo EV. With a staggering lap time of 1:02.8, the RS Q8 Performance is our ‘Performance Car of the Year 2025’.</p>

      
    
      
    


<p>The RS Q8 Performance’s recipe for speed starts with its impeccable 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, which produces 631bhp and 850Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic and Audi’s legendary quattro system. The result? A 0 – 100km/h time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 305km/h – those are supercar numbers, period.</p>

<p>What truly boggles the mind, though, is its handling. Thanks to the immense grip provided by its chassis, AWD system, and sport differential, the RS Q8 Performance behaves more like a surgical tool than a sledgehammer on the track. The steering is quick and precise, and that massive grille can sniff out apexes like a bloodhound. The whole experience is thrilling but never intimidating. You can stand on the throttle through most corners, and it won’t bite. The AWD system helps rotate the rear mid-corner, allowing you to flirt with four-wheel drifts like a rally car before catapulting you out of bends with incredible traction. All the while, the V8 roars with a wicked, muscle-car soundtrack that adds drama to the whole experience. It’s almost laughable how sharp and fast this high-riding family SUV is on the racetrack.</p><p>

Sure, it may not have the Italian’s flash or flamboyance, but when it comes to delivering a supercar-like experience in a family SUV body, it’s every bit as capable, if not better. And the best part? It costs only half as much. Makes you wonder why anybody would want an Urus over the RS Q8 Performance, doesn’t it? But, then, for better or worse, that’s the new world order.

Audi RS Q8 Performance: Performance Car of the Year - autoX Awards 2025

The Audi RS Q8 Performance is the most powerful ICE car ever to come out of Ingolstadt, and since it wears the RS badge, it obviously goes like stink.

<p><em>Audi says the new A6 is the most technologically advanced machine in its segment. Now that’s a pretty bold statement. We take it for a spin to find out...</em></p>

<p>Traditionally, the Audi A6 has always struggled against the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. For buyers, it’s been a straightforward choice. If you want comfort, then the three-pointed star is the obvious choice. And if you love being in control of your luxury sedan, and enjoy driving, then it’s the Bavarian beast from Munich.</p>

<p>Audi has, therefore, found it hard at times to extol the virtues of this particular model. And that’s why Audi’s best selling sedan is the A4, while for Mercedes and BMW it’s always been the E-Class and 5 Series respectively. But Audi, being the number one luxury carmaker in the country, is now set to shake up the Stuttgart-Munich hegemony – if not shatter it completely. So, there’s a lot riding on the 2015 Audi A6 Matrix. The name may sound like a gimmick, but let’s keep an open mind – shall we?</p>

<p>Audi has confidently announced that the new A6 Matrix is the most technologically advanced car in its segment. Now that’s a pretty strong statement, given the sort of the competition it faces. So we decided to decipher this claim by getting behind the wheel. I must admit that the nip-and-tuck job has done wonders for the A6, as it looks refreshed and sharper in design. It gets the 3D front grille, which we saw in the Q3 a couple of months ago when we drove it in Goa – and it certainly does wonders for the stance of the A6. And, let’s face it, an ego boost is respect gained in this uber class! Audi wanted to make sure that the A6 has compelling road presence, and there’s nothing better than having S-Line front and rear bumpers, as well as muscular wheel arches with 18-inch alloy wheels. And Ingolstadt has managed to balance brawn with class, as this is where the sleek new Matrix LED headlights come in. So, what’s so special about it? Apart from being full LEDs, each lamp individually adjusts its light beam when it detects oncoming cars. And so it doesn’t blind anyone. This smart piece of technology is available in Audi’s high-end models like the R8, A8, TT and the RS siblings – the RS6 and RS7. This is the first time that Matrix LED headlights are being offered on a mainstream model as a standard feature. Now moving on two more very cool features, which don’t need a nerdy spiel – the slow, yet dramatic, swipe of the turn indicators, and the re-designed flatter, wider and more sporty twin exhausts.</p>

<p>The A6’s cabin is predominantly beige, which gives it an airy feel. The dark brown dashboard comes with beautifully crafted wooden inlays, which run across the door panels as well. The new infotainment system, or the MMI system, is more intuitive while the display is a lot crisper. Good news for all music lovers, the system now comes with 10GB of memory space. So you can play your favourite tunes in the Bose sound system and let the 14 speakers hit the “are you crazy” level. Sing Hallelujah everyone, the A6 now comes with a USB port, which makes it easier to charge your phone or hook up your music device. The centre console comes with a touch pad, which lets you scan radio stations, playlists, and even maps. The 8-inch multimedia screen is easy to use and can be paired to your smart phone – Android or iOS. It also gives you the option to use voice command functions.</p>

<p>A lot of attention has been given to the comfort and safety of rear-seat passengers. The A6 comes with 8-airbags – so you’re pretty well protected no matter where you’re seated. You can also control the front passenger seat from the back to increase rear legroom. There’s also a remote for the rear passengers to control the infotainment system, which is extremely useful.</p>

<p>Don’t be deceived by the 1,968cc engine – we assure you that it’s a brand new inline four-cylinder diesel. The power output has been increased by 7%, and it now makes 188bhp. But the more significant new addition is the all-new 7-speed dual clutch transmission, which replaces the CVT. Step on the gas, and it accelerates smoothly. This is a bit deceptive though, as you feel as though the car isn’t very fast till you see the speedometer and realise that you’re actually cruising comfortably at over the three-digit mark. That’s when you become conscious of what the A6 is capable of, and slowly ease off the pedal. It also comes with paddle shifters. So, with the new gearbox, the A6 is now more eager to indulge in short acceleration bursts – so just downshift and let it whisper with the wind.</p>

<p>The A6 comes with Audi Drive Select, which lets you choose what mode you’d like to drive in – Comfort, Dynamic, Auto and Individual. What makes this feature more significant is the adaptive suspension, which now comes standard. This lets you adjust the ride height of the car based on the road conditions. The A6 Matrix is definitely the most fully loaded sedan in its segment, and is available at `49.50 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi and Mumbai). Well, it’s certainly is worth it. The new engine’s refinement levels are impressive, and so is its increased power and torque. The cabin is very luxurious and the additional features for rear passengers are a smart move. Technology wise, its Matrix LED headlights are class-leading. It’s a great all-rounder, has fabulous interiors, and its diesel variant is frugal. For now, it looks like the A6 can potentially take the lead in this hard-fought segment!</p>

<p>It’s been nearly six years since Audi India set up shop, and within that time the Audi&nbsp;A6 alone has managed to sell over 6,000 units for the German carmaker. For the Indian luxury market that’s quite an achievement. In fact, sales of Audi’s entire model lineup have been growing faster than any other luxury carmaker in the country. Even in China, Audi sells more cars than their main rivals – BMW and Mercedes-Benz. And because the Chinese market has much greater volumes than India, they build special models suited to the demands of the Chinese customer. The Indian market too is now of some significance, and Audi has acknowledged the growing needs and demands of the Indian luxury consumer. So, for the first time, just as they did with our neighbours to the East, India will also get a special edition from Audi – and what better car to initiate this trend than the Audi A6.</p>

<p>We were invited to Jaipur to celebrate Audi’s achievements in India, and to also get a first-hand look at the new Audi A6 Special Edition. Essentially the Special Edition is loaded with features taken from the larger A8. Audi understands than their cars are mostly chauffeur driven, so the new features focus primarily on the passengers in the rear. However, the most exciting addition is the Adaptive Air Suspension with Audi Drive Select.</p>

We drove the 2.0 litre TDI, which is not the most exciting engine – with the same specifications as the standard Audi A6. But it was potent enough to let us test out the new suspension with Audi Drive Select. There are 4 modes – Dynamic, Comfort, Individual and Automatic. When in Automatic mode, the car adapts to the current driving conditions – including the driving style and the road conditions. The Audi Drive Select controls the engine, transmission, steering and suspension – all of which the driver is free to setup in Individual mode. We started the drive in Comfort, and, in this mode, the car is very relaxed to drive. The throttle response is quite mellow, and the steering is very light. Ride height is a little higher, and the suspension is softer. With a quick and seamless change to Dynamic, you notice the differences immediately. The steering response is more immediate, as is the throttle response, and the suspension is more firm. This is definitely the best mode to be in if you like to drive. You can liven up your driving experience even more if you switch the 8-speed automatic transmission into Sport mode – at which point the engine revs higher, and allows you to accelerate faster with the gearbox aiding engine response.</p>

<p>On the inside, the first thing you notice is the touchpad for the MMI (Multimedia interface), which is also found on the A8. It allows the driver to control the system with ease. Another feature that works extremely well is the 4-zone air conditioning. It was a very hot day in Jaipur, as you can imagine during this time of the year, but we still had to turn the air-conditioning down because it became quite cold in the cabin. There are also air-conditioning vents in the rear, of course, and the passengers sitting at the back can control the settings of the air-conditioning. There is also a remote control located in the rear seat armrest, which can be used to control the MMI. The rear seat passenger can also adjust the front passenger seat to provide an adequate amount of legroom. This feature has been brought over from the Audi A6L in China, and is also found in the A8 in India.</p>

<p>The Special Edition Audi A6 gets a 14-speaker Bose Surround Sound System that sounds pretty awesome. Additional features include side airbags at the rear and a comfort key. There are no sheet metal differences between the current A6 and the special addition, but the only exterior difference is the use of LED headlights that have a lifespan of 10,000 hours.</p>

<p>With all this technology fitted to the Audi A6, it seems like Audi is intensifying its stance in the luxury car wars that are currently prevailing between the three German brands in India. And while the intense competition may be affecting the bottom line of the carmakers, it’s providing more options for customers – and that’s what we like to see. The Audi A6 Special addition will be available with an introductory price of `46.33 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi – but only for a limited period.</p>
