<p>Audi has unveiled the new AUDI E SUV concept at the Guangzhou Auto Show. This is the second model from the AUDI sub-brand made for China. The concept previews the upcoming AUDI E8 SUV that will enter production in early 2026. Audi is expanding its electric vehicle plans in China with support from its partnerships with FAW and SAIC. </p><p>The company introduced five models in China in the second half of 2025 and plans more launches in 2026. A team of road testers with over 100 years of combined experience scores each vehicle across key parameters. <p>It’s the most powerful ICE car ever to come out of Ingolstadt, and since it wears the RS badge, it obviously goes like stink. Need proof? It currently holds the Nürburgring Nordschleife record for the fastest production SUV, with a lap time of 7:36.7 – faster than some of your bedroom-poster icons like the Lexus LFA, Ferrari 430 Scuderia, and Lamborghini Murciélago SV.</p><p>With a resume that strong, we expected the RS Q8 Performance to be among the fastest cars in our test. What we didn’t expect was for it to absolutely annihilate the competition, which included the Aston Martin DBX 707, BMW M5, Mercedes-AMG CLE 53, and Porsche Macan Turbo EV. <p>The RS Q8 Performance’s recipe for speed starts with its impeccable 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, which produces 631bhp and 850Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic and Audi’s legendary quattro system. The result? A 0 – 100km/h time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 305km/h – those are supercar numbers, period.</p>

<p>What truly boggles the mind, though, is its handling. Thanks to the immense grip provided by its chassis, AWD system, and sport differential, the RS Q8 Performance behaves more like a surgical tool than a sledgehammer on the track. The steering is quick and precise, and that massive grille can sniff out apexes like a bloodhound. The whole experience is thrilling but never intimidating. You can stand on the throttle through most corners, and it won’t bite. The AWD system helps rotate the rear mid-corner, allowing you to flirt with four-wheel drifts like a rally car before catapulting you out of bends with incredible traction. All the while, the V8 roars with a wicked, muscle-car soundtrack that adds drama to the whole experience. It’s almost laughable how sharp and fast this high-riding family SUV is on the racetrack.</p><p>

Audi RS Q8 Performance: Performance Car of the Year - autoX Awards 2025

<p>Audi is set to announce more details of its Formula 1 project on 12 November as the German marque prepares for its official entry into the championship in 2026. The announcement will mark a major step in its plan to join the grid under the upcoming technical regulations. A teaser image shared by Audi showed a black-and-white concept design, giving an early look at the visual direction for its first Formula 1 car. The event will likely confirm Audi’s operational framework, outline its development targets, and explain how it plans to position itself against established teams before the 2026 season.</p>

<p>Audi will use the event to confirm the full acquisition of the Sauber F1 team, completing the transition of the Swiss outfit into a works operation under the Audi name. This move completes the process that began in 2022 when Audi announced its Formula 1 plans. The structure will link Audi’s power unit project with Sauber’s chassis and race team operations, allowing both divisions to work as one unit. Sauber’s Hinwil base will handle car assembly and race operations, while Audi’s Neuburg site in Germany will continue as the centre for engine and hybrid system development.</p>
<p>Audi has confirmed its 2026 driver lineup. Gabriele Bortoleto and Nicola Hulkenberg will race for the team in its first season. The management group will be led by Jonathan Wheatley, who will report to CEO Mattia Binotto.     India’s national highway network has grown by 60% in the past decade. If that isn’t reason alone for a road trip, I don’t know what is.</p>

<p>The last time I drove to or from Ladakh was a decade ago. On that journey, we got snowed in between the high passes of Baralacha and Taglang La – forcing us to spend the night in a tent on the freezing plains of Sarchu. Fortunately, a hot water bottle saw me through the night. But things have changed quite considerably since.</p><p>Gone are the narrow dirt trails and treacherous drops. Well, the drops are still there, but now they’re concealed behind a ribbon of neat Armco. The dirt tracks that previously doubled as rally stages on the Raid de Himalaya are now gone and have been replaced by two– and sometimes even four–lane highways that make accessing some of the highest motorable roads in the world an absolute breeze.</p>







<h2>Call of the Mountains</h2>

<p>On this occasion, we were driving from Delhi to Leh, with a couple of detours that included Pangong Tso – the world’s highest saltwater lake at over 14,000 feet. The first leg was Delhi to Kullu – an almost 500-kilometre journey that took a little over nine hours at a pretty relaxed pace.

<p>Sadly, the green fields on the way to Chandigarh have all but vanished and given way to a concrete jungle that lines both sides of NH44 for mile-after-dreary-mile. The Q7 makes quick work of it though – the 3.0-litre turbo-petrol V6 dismissing everything in its wake, while the 19-speaker Bang &amp; Olufsen sound system keeps you totally isolated from the chaos outside.</p><p>Day 2 was easier still, with just a 4-hour journey to Jispa – well short of dreaded Sarchu. This was my first time through the Atal tunnel, which is a spectacular feat of engineering. You enter the 9-kilometre tunnel via a deciduous forest en route to the Rohtang Pass and exit right into the belly of the high-altitude desert that is the Spiti Valley. In fact, the journey was so easy that next time I may head straight to Jispa from Delhi – a journey that, in 2007, took me a full 21 hours nonstop.</p>







<p>Day 3 was over 300-kilometers of high-passes all the way to Leh, but even this once-fearsome journey was smooth-sailing and took just over 7 hours. My memories of this drive consist of charting your own course through the More Plains, in stark contrast to the now beautiful stretch of tarmac that not only cuts through the plains but also snakes its way up the mountain and all the way to Taglang La. There are, of course, some broken stretches, but nothing that the Q7 can’t handle without even breaking a sweat.</p><p>

    </p><p>Before we knew it, we had entered Leh and were driving past the Thiksey monastery. Here, again, I was amazed at the scale of development. A decade ago, you could see Thiksey from afar – perched on top of a hill. Now, it creeps up on you because of the sheer volume of construction in and around Leh.</p>







<p>If you do, nevertheless, want to step back in time, you need to head past Leh and keep going for about an hour-and-a-half towards Kargil, before turning off abruptly in the direction of the village of Mangyu. The village itself is beautiful and quaint, while the monastery is absolutely stunning with its with 800-year-old wall paintings and sculptures. We even got a chance to do some serious off-roading both to-and-from the village – which, thanks to some razor-sharp rocks underfoot, ensured we had a reason to test the hydraulic jack and full-size spare that we brought with us in the event of that inevitable flat tyre.</p><p>A full-size spare wheel and tyre are absolutely essential on a journey such as this. So is, of course, a hydraulic jack, an air compressor and a tyre repair kit. We may have gone overboard because we even brought an oxygen concentrator, as well as a portable power station to run it on the go. Fortunately, it stayed well packed in one corner of the boot the whole time. The spare tyre, though, proved to be very useful.</p><p>

<p>Other than the flat, the Q7 was completely faultless. The air suspension, in particular, deserves special mention. It gives you almost 250mm of ground clearance, which was particularly useful during our daytrip to Pangong Lake. It’s a ten-hour slog to and from Leh, but is well worth the trip. The last, and only, time I visited Pangong was in 2007, and the crystal-clear water reflecting that incredible Himalayan sky to create an Impressionist canvas of indigo hues was a view that I’ve longed for ever since. Needless to say, it didn’t disappoint!</p><p>Here, again, the drive has been completely transformed – the highway was so wide in some stretches that it looked as though you could hold a military parade if you so wish, which, come to think of it, is precisely why the roads in these border areas have become unrecognisable. Especially after the 2020 Galwan skirmish, the road building efforts across the northern frontier have been in overdrive.</p>







<p>I have to say, though, that I miss the heyday of the Raid de Himalaya – the best motoring experience I’ve ever had, bar none. I remember being awestruck during my first attempt in 2006. At the time, my rally Gypsy was brand new, and so we even came away with some silverware for our efforts. The rally was so gruelling, though, that one event was enough to have an enduring impact on the car – literally – so-much-so that we were plagued with mechanical trouble in subsequent years. They say you’ve never really lived until you’ve lived on the edge! Perhaps that explains the euphoria of an event like the Raid, with terrain the likes of which you can only experience in the upper reaches of the Himalayas. The journey now is, of course, a lot safer and more accessible but also a little anodyne as a result. Don’t get me wrong, the views are still spectacular, but you don’t feel the same level of accomplishment on completing it like you did before.</p><p>

    </p><p>That being said, there’s no better machine than the Audi Q7 in which to embark on such a road trip – the refinement, comfort and levels of usability are second to none, as is the ease with which it handles everything that’s thrown at it.</p>





<p>And while all the development has meant that some of the charm is lost, it also means that you just have to look that little bit harder to seek out those really special experiences. Take, for instance, the morning prayers at the Thikse monastery – where the monks let you in to get a brief, but very insightful, glimpse into their daily lives. They even offer you butter tea, as you join them for morning prayers with a side of porridge. It’s incredibly peaceful, and a testament to an incredible and enduring culture. And if ever there was a time for those Buddhist prayer flags to carry the message of compassion and wisdom, it’s now.</p><p>

<p>Audi India has revised the prices of its ICE models in response to the newly updated GST slab rates. As a result,&nbsp;popular models like the Q3 and A4&nbsp;have become significantly more affordable. This presents a great opportunity for luxury car buyers in India to buy their preferred Audi car at new and reduced GST 2.0 rates, which the German marque claims are effective immediately, so customers&nbsp;don't have to wait until September 2022 (the official new GST implementation date).&nbsp;</p><p>The entry-level models like the Q3 now start at Rs 43.07 lakh, down from Rs 46.14 lakh. Meanwhile, the A4 is priced at Rs 46.25 lakh, instead of the previous Rs 48.89 lakh. Audi Q3, Q8, A4 Prices Slashed by up to Rs 7.83 Lakh After GST 2.0 Update

The Audi Q3 now starts at Rs 43.07 lakh, while the A4 is priced at Rs 46.25 lakh. These are GST 2.0 rates, and can be availed immediately.

<p><em><strong>After a tough couple of years in the Indian market, Audi is revitalising itself with the launch of a new entry-level product – the Q2. But don’t luxury and compact make strange bedfellows?</strong></em></p>

<p>When it comes to luxury SUVs, and selling them in large volumes, no brand, perhaps, has more experience in the Indian market than Audi. From the Q7, which sparked the luxury SUV craze in India over a decade ago, to the first-gen Q5 and the Q3, Audi’s SUV range has been a hot-favourite with Indian customers. So, it comes as no surprise that, with the Q2, Audi is stretching the definition of SUVs and entering into the compact SUV segment. &nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Ambiguous Design</strong><br />
In today’s world, where virtually every single product category has given way to a myriad of product variations, the Q2 presents a new conundrum for Indian customers, with its polarising design. You see, when it comes to the overall design theme, the Q2 looks more like a raised hatchback than a traditional SUV. Sure, it has a slightly taller ride height and big 17-inch wheels, paired to the trademark oversized Audi grille, but the fact is that the Q2 just doesn’t feel like an SUV in the traditional sense of the word. &nbsp;However, it does have some interesting details – for instance, its strong shoulder line has some interesting detailing and that blacked-out C-pillar gives the roof a floating look.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Hits &amp; Misses&nbsp;</strong><br />
While the exterior styling might not be traditional, the interior of the Q2 has the familiar Audi ambience. Also, the interior quality of the Q2 is fantastic, with its soft-touch surfaces and very comfortable seats.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The moment you fire up the car, you’re greeted with the sight of Audi’s Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster, which continues to impress with its quality, design, and intuitiveness. The flat-bottom steering wheel is great to use and just the perfect size for the car. Another highlight of the Q2’s design is the LED lighting, which is now a part of the interior décor and looks fantastic at night.</p>

<p>But there are also some concerns with the Q2. With a length of just over 4.3 metres, the Q2 is compact. It’s no surprise, then, that the Q2’s interior space is at a premium. For instance, if you’re taller than six feet, you’ll struggle in the rear seat. And with a transmission tunnel that runs through the centre of the rear floor, the Q2 is more suited for four adults rather than five.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In terms of multimedia and connectivity, the Q2 offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with wireless charging for smartphones and a 10-speaker sound system. The multimedia functioning of the Q2 is controlled through an 8.3-inch multimedia display, which, interestingly, does not have touchscreen functionality and can only be accessed via Audi’s MMI controller.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>POCKET ROCKET</strong><br />
One of the biggest highlights of the Q2 is its driving appeal. It might be compact in size, but its 2.0-litre turbocharged TFSI petrol engine packs a punch – it produces 188bhp and 320Nm of torque. The combination of the Q2’s compact size, all-wheel drive, and relatively light weight allow the 188bhp engine to propel it from 0 to 100km/h in just 6.5 seconds. In fact, the 2.0-litre engine feels perfect for the Q2 – whether you’re in traffic or driving on the highway, the unit is responsive and provides instant acceleration. It genuinely makes the Q2 fun&nbsp;<br />
to drive.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One of the reasons that new products like the Q2 are now making their way into the Indian market is our government’s new regulations, which allow manufacturers to import up to 2,500 units of a particular product every year, without necessitating that the product be locally homologated in India. Therefore, like some other VW Group products, the Q2 is also imported into India in CBU form. And, as a fully built import, the suspension of the Q2 is set up for European roads, which means that the ride of the Q2 is quite firm and can be quite jarring on our roads. Also, the steering of the Q2 has an unnatural weight to it and feels quite heavy, especially at slow speeds.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>WEIGHING THE ODDS</strong><br />
Overall, I think that the Q2 is a bit of a hit-and-miss product. The things that work in its favour include the Audi badge, its compact size – if you’re looking for an urban runabout – excellent quality, and spirited performance, with its power-packed engine and all-wheel-drive layout. However, as compared to other similar-size SUVs available in India, like the Seltos or Creta, or even the X1, the Q2 doesn’t do as well in terms of equipment, with its manual seats, small sunroof, and lack of a touchscreen.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In short, the Q2 has the characteristics of a typical Audi product in terms of performance, quality, and brand appeal. But, the pricing of the Q2 is a bit too high, given that it’s a CBU import. Sure, its pricing starts at just under the Rs. 35 lakh, but well-equipped versions of the Q2 cost between Rs. 45 and Rs. 49 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom).&nbsp;</p>

<p>So, a well-equipped Q2 will cost well over Rs. 50 lakh on-road. Now that’s a lot of money for a car with limited features and space. While it’s undoubtedly a competent product, at this price, it’s strictly for diehard Audi SUV fans. &nbsp;</p>
