Amazing performance

<p>Saw this car drive past on the road, loved its exhaust sound. But wonder why they changed from V8 to V6. The red colour looks sporty but what about ground clearance for these type of cars in India? When I went to showroom, I saw this car in blue. Interiors are superb. Loved it.</p>

<p>Audi has brought back one of its most important pre-war race cars with a recreated version of the 1935 Auto Union Lucca. The original machine became famous after setting a flying-start mile record on an Italian road near Lucca, reaching an average speed of 320.267km/h and a peak of 326.975km/h. Built by British restoration specialist Crosthwaite &amp; Gardiner, the recreated car was developed using archive photos, engineering records, and historical documents. At the time, speed records were a major part of motorsport competition, pushing manufacturers to develop faster and more advanced race cars. After Mercedes driver Rudolf Caracciola set a flying-start mile benchmark of 316.592km/h in 1934, Auto Union engineers quickly began work on a machine capable of going even faster on public roads.</p><p>

The smooth surface and near-straight layout made it suitable for high-speed testing and record runs.</p><h2><strong>1935 Auto Union Lucca: Design</strong></h2><p>The recreated Auto Union Lucca keeps the same streamlined shape that made the original car stand out in the 1930s. Its enclosed cockpit, smooth wheel arches, and long rear section were all designed to improve aerodynamics and reduce drag at high speed. Even today, the design still looks purposeful and race-focused.</p><p>

The recreated model can also switch between its Lucca record-run specification and the later 1935 Avus race setup.</p><h2><strong>1935 Auto Union Lucca: Engine</strong></h2><p>The original Lucca used a supercharged five-litre V16 engine producing around 343bhp. The recreated version gets a larger six-litre V16 from the Auto Union Type C race car, producing 520bhp. Audi says both engines look nearly identical externally, allowing the larger unit to fit without changing the car’s appearance.</p><p>

<p>Then there are those who do like to be competitive but do not desire to flaunt their riches or skills. Their appearance might look calm and vanilla, much like a superhero roaming around in civilian clothing. But there is a lot of potential hidden inside. In the car world, there is a term for such cars – a sleeper. They look unassuming and can pass the city streets just like any other car. However, when called upon, their wild side could rival the flashiness of the flashiest customers. The Audi SQ8 belongs to this very kind. It has the kind facade of a sedate luxury SUV but the heart of a cheetah on the hunt! <br></p>
<h1>Audi SQ8 Review: Exterior Design </h1>
<p>A casual glance will make you think that this is just another Q8. After all, it shares the same silhouette and overall design. You get the same Matrix LED headlamps at the front and connected lights at the back. Sure, the massive grille looks slightly different, but it is hardly a brow-raising feature. It even looks the same in profile if you opt for the 22-inch alloys. Our review unit, in fact, had shiny silver accents around the grille and air dams, typical of luxury products. But take a closer look at the lower part of the rear, and you will find a quad exhaust setup – a precursor to the character of the engine. <br></p>

<p>Overall, the SQ8 manages to look like a smart luxury SUV that could be taken to fancy parties and business meetings, without looking out of place. <br></p>
<h1>Audi SQ8 Review: Interior Space &amp; Features<br></h1>
<p>The interior is also very sedate and luxury-oriented. It looks rather similar to the Q8’s interior, and you get the same setup for the screens. The infotainment system is a 10.1-inch display that works well but misses out on wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. All the AC controls are housed in the secondary 8.6-inch screen below it. As for the 12.3-inch instrument cluster itself, I do like it, despite its somewhat dated design. I never felt like the UI was complicated or lacked any information. You can even display the map on it. </p>

<p>Although I will say that I did not like the Drive Mode selection buttons placed below the AC display. Their design does make them harder to press and will take some time getting used to. The major differentiator between this trim and the standard Q8 is the sportier flat-bottom steering wheel and the SQ8 badge.&nbsp;The feature set is somewhat dated, much like other Audi cars in India, and that is where the SQ8 suffers. You do not even get a proper ADAS suite in the SQ8. All you get is a lane departure warning, and that too is an optional extra. <br></p>

<p>The quality of the cabin and the luxury quotient are high, thanks to the abundance of soft-touch surfaces and great levels of fit and finish. The seats hold you well and will be comfortable even on longer journeys. The second row is rather accommodating, and even taller individuals will have no trouble.&nbsp; <br></p>
<h1>Audi SQ8 Review: Engine Specs &amp; Performance <br></h1>
<p>The engine and the drive are where things get really interesting for the SQ8. Thumb the starter, and the growl from the quad exhaust system lets you know that you are about to pilot an angry beast, so you'd better hold on tight! The SQ8 ditches the smaller 3.0-litre, V6 of the Q8 for the 4.4-litre, V8 seen in the RS Q8, albeit in a detuned state. Even after the dumbing down, Audi is giving you 500bhp and 770Nm of torque, which is more than what most people would ever need. Mind you, these figures are much closer to the RS Q8 than they are to the Q8.</p>

<p>If you want to test out the acceleration, you can set the SQ8 into Dynamic mode and take charge of shifting the gears manually. It will sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just a little over 4 seconds, fairly close to the claimed time. The quad exhaust I mentioned earlier has a deep rumble when idling and eggs you on with cheerful roars as you floor the A pedal. Yes, it is perhaps not as loud as the RS Q8, but it is not as mundane as some others.</p>

<p>What is also commendable is the SQ8’s ability to switch between a comfortable cruiser and a corner carver. In the Comfort mode, the engine becomes more tame, and the air suspension configures itself to deliver a plushier ride. The damping over bumps is generally good, although it could have been a smidge more cushy. Put the SUV into Dynamic mode, and this SUV lowers itself like a predator rearing itself before a lethal lunge, and the full force of this V8 is unleashed. Of course, it is not as planted and controlled as something like the RS Q8, but it still does a commendable job of delivering traction and giggles through the twisty bits of tarmac thanks to the 285-section rubber, all-wheel-drive system, and the rear wheel steering.</p>

<p>I also liked the brakes. They have a nice progression when you just want to gently shave off speed and do not exhibit the grabby nature seen in many performance cars. And when you do want to come to a halt urgently, there is plenty of bite on offer. <br></p>
<h1>Audi SQ8 Review: Verdict <br></h1>
<p>The SQ8, in my opinion, sits in that sweet spot of performance and luxury where it would be preferred by a lot of people. But it is a lot closer to the mad RS Q8 in terms of the engine specs. For those who do not have a race track in their backyard, the SQ8 makes for a more sensible pick in that regard.<br><br></p>

Audi SQ8 First Drive Review: Balancing Act

We get a taste of the SQ8, an SUV that marries the concepts of understated luxury and adrenaline-boosting performance in the same package.

<p>Audi has given the Q4 e-tron and the&nbsp;Q4 Sportback e-tron a major update for 2027, and this is not the usual mid-life nip and tuck. The brand’s compact electric SUV now packs more range, sharper styling, better charging, and a cabin loaded with fresh tech. With up to 592km of WLTP range, a new APP350 motor, segment-first passenger display, Audi’s first bidirectional charging setup in an EV, Plug &amp; Charge as standard, and major digital upgrades, the Q4 e-tron has moved well beyond being just an entry point into the brand’s electric line-up.</p><p><strong>Also Read:&nbsp;</strong><a href="https://www.autox.com/news/industry-news/audi-cars-in-india-to-become-up-to-2-more-expensive-from-april-2026-123103/">Audi Cars in India to Become up to 2% More Expensive From April 2026</a></p><p>Although Audi India has not announced an official launch timeline yet, the Q4 e-tron is expected to arrive in India between late 2026 and early 2027.</p><h2><strong>2027 Audi Q4 e-tron: Design</strong></h2><p>Visually, the changes are clean but effective. The front end now gets a body-coloured Singleframe grille, revised air intakes, and sharper bumper detailing that make the SUV look wider and more polished. Functional air intakes help direct airflow around the front wheels, reducing drag, while wing elements in the bumper visually broaden its stance. It still looks familiar, but there is more purpose now.</p><p>

These updates improve airflow while sharpening the SUV’s road presence.</p><p>Lighting has become a bigger part of the Q4 e-tron’s identity too. The front digital LED daytime running lights now feature segmented technology with selectable digital signatures through the MMI system. At the rear, second-generation digital OLED tail-lights use six panels with 284 segments and include proximity detection, warning following vehicles if they approach too closely when the Q4 is stationary.</p><p>

Top-spec models also get matrix LED headlights with four selectable digital light signatures, while three new paint finishes and five fresh alloy wheel designs expand personalisation.</p><h2><strong>2027 Audi Q4 e-tron: Interior and Features</strong></h2><p>Inside, the biggest leap is immediately obvious. Audi’s updated cabin feels far more modern, built around what it calls a digital stage. An 11.9-inch digital instrument display and 12.8-inch central touchscreen form the core of the setup, but the real talking point is the optional 12-inch passenger display, which Audi says is the largest it has fitted in any model.</p><p>

Audi says AR content appears to float around 10 metres ahead, creating a futuristic but useful driving experience.</p><p>The dashboard itself has been reworked with vertical air vents and a cleaner layout, while integrated door handles and Softwrap trim stretching across the fascia create a more cohesive look. The new centre console improves everyday usability, while dual cooled wireless charging pads, multiple USB-C ports, and smarter storage solutions make the cabin feel more practical.</p><p><img src="https://images.autox.com/uploads/2026/04/2027-Audi-Q4-e-tron-Boot-1777290802548.webp" alt="2027 Audi Q4 e-tron Boot.png" style="width: 100%; height: auto;"></p><p>Boot space remains strong at 515 litres, expanding to 1,487 litres with the rear seats folded. Quattro models can now tow up to 1,800kg, which is 400kg more than before. An electric tailgate is now standard too, reinforcing the Q4 e-tron’s balance between premium appeal and practical everyday usability.</p><p>The tech story goes well beyond screens. The Q4 e-tron now runs Android Automotive OS with Audi’s new One Connected Infotainment system. Voice controls are smarter through the Audi assistant, which can also respond to logbook queries, while ChatGPT integration adds conversational AI support. Third-party apps are accessible directly through the Audi Application Store without smartphone mirroring.</p><p>

Optional adaptive driving assistant plus can even support lane changes on motorways above 90km/h and maintain guidance without clear road markings.</p><h2><strong>2027 Audi Q4 e-tron: Engine</strong></h2><p>Under the skin, every 2027 <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/audi/">Audi</a> Q4 e-tron gets Audi’s new APP350 electric motor, which is around 10 per cent more efficient than before. The Rear-wheel-drive version  claims a range of up to 592km, while the all-wheel-drive models deliver up to 554km of claimed range.</p><p>

<p>The RS5 was Audi’s answer to the might of the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. And to counter these two heavyweights it had a naturally aspirated V8 motor that shared its DNA with Lamborghini’s V10 engine. This enabled it to redline at over 8,000rpm and produce over 440 horses – more than the M3 of the time. All of this, of course, coalesced to make it the hot commodity that it was!</p>

<p><b>More speed </b></p>

<p>Following the ongoing trend of downsizing engines, the second-gen Audi RS5 is powered by a 2.9-litre V6 with two turbochargers. Although this RS5 Coupe continues to make 444bhp, like its predecessor, the turbochargers ensure that peak power comes in at a more accessible 5,700rpm. The torque rating, however, has increased substantially – from 430Nm to an impressive 600Nm, and peak torque kicks in from as low as 1,900rpm – and goes right up to 5,000rpm. Availability of all this power and torque lower in the rev range makes it very friendly, almost like your neighbour’s well-trained Labrador puppy. Even when Drive Select is set to comfort, the RS5 gains speed rather effortlessly – so much so that you’re doing illegal speeds before you know it. And when you switch to Dynamic mode, the car transforms from a Labrador to a Rottweiler. Acceleration is a lot more urgent, and the sweet sound from the exhaust simply gives you another reason to smile.</p>

<p>At 3.9 seconds, the new RS5 is 0.7 seconds faster to 100km/h than its predecessor. Enabling this ferocious acceleration is a reduction in weight of 60kgs. And helping put all this power down to the road is a new 8-speed torque convertor – replacing the previous dual-clutch transmission. This one is just as fast and responsive as before – in fact, it feels like it can read your mind – but it’s smoother than the erstwhile dual-clutch, especially at low speeds.</p>

<p><b>Around the bend</b></p>

<p>The heavy front-end, a typical Audi characteristic, was one of the biggest stumbling blocks for the first-gen RS5. Thankfully, the Ingolstadt-based carmaker has somewhat addressed this issue in the new version. We did tell you that it’s lighter than its predecessor by 60kgs, didn’t we? Well, half of this reduction is the result of the new engine. As a result of which the RS5 doesn’t understeer as much as before, which encourages you to go faster around corners. And then there’s the Quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system. Although in regular driving conditions the RS5 is marginally rear-biased, with 60 percent of the power being sent to the rear, in case of slip at either axle, the system immediately transmits power to the other axle. Like the previous-gen model, this too has a torque vectoring system that gradually applies braking force on the inside wheels, allowing you to put the power down harder and faster. While the RS5 really feels a lot more agile than before, as is always the case with fast Audis, we would have preferred better steering feedback. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Now, the best part of this Audi from a daily usability point of view is its ride quality. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the way it tackles bad roads. Of course, it isn’t as plush as a regular luxury car, but judging it by the standards of a performance car, it’s definitely impressive. One thing that requires your attention, though, is the ground clearance – as the underbelly tends to scrape while traversing large speed breakers and potholes.</p>

<p>I was never a fan of the old RS5’s design – it was too understated for a sports car. But the designers at Audi have been sketching masterpieces of late, and the new RS5 Coupe is certainly one of them. While the first-gen model looked quite bulky, this one has sharp lines and sporty elements that make it look lean and mean – not to mention those stunning 20-inch wheels. <p>If you’ve had a chance to sit inside any of the newer Audis, you’ll find the RS5’s interior a bit familiar. The dashboard is identical, has great quality and is very functional. To ensure that the interior of the RS5 looks as sporty as the outside, Audi has made generous use of carbon fibre on the dash and centre console. The sport seats have great lateral support and are very comfortable. Massage functions also aid comfort considerably. Now, the new Audi RS5 is a lot of things, but it isn’t a car for four adults by any means. The two-door coupe has just enough legroom for two young kids at the back.</p>

<p><b>Pleases the head &amp; the heart &nbsp;</b></p>

<p>Priced at <span>Rs</span> 1.10 crore (ex-showroom), the Audi RS5 is about <span>Rs</span> 20 to 30 lakh cheaper than its rivals, and that’s a lot of money – even for someone buying a car in this class. But a cheaper price tag doesn’t mean it’s any less impressive. The RS5 performs just as well as the M4, and even the more powerful C63 S for that matter. The composed manner in which it puts the power to the ground in union with the quattro all-wheel drive system makes it extremely forgiving – a word that can’t be used for its rear-wheel drive compatriots. Sure, it doesn’t have the raw power of Ivan Drago, but it does feel mature like <i><span>Rocky Balboa</span></i>. And no matter how many times you watch the movie, your heart always go out to Rocky!</p>
