Jeep Grand Cherokee Highlights
For Jeep, the Grand Cherokee has been a bread-and-butter model, specifically for certain international markets. The Cherokee is a true-blue Jeep that can overcome any off-road obstacle without breaking into a sweat. Unlike many of its soft-roader rivals, Jeep's SUV is built to take on the rough stuff, without having to compromise on refinement and luxury. It comes with essential equipment, and is known for its good levels of comfort, performance and rugged appeal. Of course, the Jeep Grand Cherokee price is on the higher side of the spectrum as it comes in as a CBU for India, but Jeep enthusiasts are sure to like what it has on offer; the 3.0-litre diesel V6 being included as well.
The Grand Cherokee comes across as a muscular SUV. From up-front, you'll notice the traditional seven-slat grille, the slim headlamps that look integrated in slit-like cut-outs. There's also a crease that creates a smiling visual across the fascia, while the shapely bumper looks good too. The bonnet has a nice definition to it as well. Viewed from the side, the squared wheel arches house huge chrome wheels. There are also two strong creases that lie parallel to each other on the doors. At the rear, Jeep Grand Cherokee new model boasts of rectangular tail lamps and dual exhausts.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee variants are as follows: Summit (petrol), Limited 4x4, Summit 4x4 and SRT 4x4. Features-wise, it comes equipped with air suspension, voice control, radar-based adaptive cruise control, steering-mounted audio controls, heated and ventilated seats, sat-nav, USB and aux-in ports, keyless entry and go, reversing camera, Bluetooth connectivity, electric tailgate, panoramic sunroof and parking sensors. On the safety front, it gets ABS, ESP, hill start assist, hill descent control and multiple airbags.
Inside the cabin, you're seated quite high up. The seats are wide and comfortable, with adjustments available for the seat and steering as well. There's loads of space at the rear too, with the seats offering good under-thigh support. What adds to the airy feeling in the cabin is the huge panoramic sunroof. The solid dashboard boasts of an 8.9-inch touchscreen, while the steering gets a plethora of buttons; so does the centre console. The Grand Cherokee on-road price, segment and girth might trick you as if it is a seven-seater, but it is a five-seater, and the 1544-litre boot is massive. The plastics used inside are of good quality and the sound clarity from the 19-speaker Harman Kardon system is great for anyone who loves turning on the radio/music.
Engine Specifications & Performance
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is powered by three engine options: a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine that makes 239.6bhp and 570Nm of torque, a 3.6-litre petrol engine that produces 285.6bhp and 347Nm of torque and a 6.5-litre V8 engine that produces 468bhp and 624Nm of torque. All engines are paired to a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox. We drove the one with the diesel unit. On starting the engine, there is a mild hum that can be heard. Power delivery is linear, and the engine is hardly audible. At high speeds, the SUV stays planted and there's a lot of grip on offer as well. The steering is direct, and the air suspension ensures that body movements are in control.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee's ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure is rated at 5.5kpl for the V8 petrol model and 12.8kpl for the diesel model.
