Land Rover Range Rover Sport Highlights
The current-gen Range Rover Sport was first launched in the Indian market in 2013. The advent of the Range Rover Sport was to fill the gap between the full-size Range Rover and the comparatively smaller Evoque. Happily, though, the Sport had its way cut out as it was just the right size for an SUV in this segment. While it had the looks and appeal of a larger Evoque, the Sport shared its platform and chassis with the flagship Range Rover. On a side note, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport price also helped it fit in between both its siblings.
The second-generation Range Rover Sport received a facelift in 2018, followed by the company equipping it with a smaller 2.0-litre petrol engine in 2019. Here’s what we think about the Range Rover Sport.
Exterior
In 2018, the company updated the Sport without tampering with the tried-and-tested formula. It is still, unmistakably, a Range Rover Sport. As for the changes, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport new model took some of its design cues from the newly-launched (at that time) Range Rover Velar. As hinted above, it still proudly carries the boxy design, which is now complemented with a new honeycomb grille and a pair of LED headlamps at the front.
The front bumper, too, has seen some revisions, replete with larger air dams now. In profile, the top-spec trims get massive 21-inch alloy wheels, which fill those muscular arches really well. The most prominent change at the rear is the use of new LED taillamps followed by a re-profiled bumper.
Variants
The Land Rover Range Rover Sport variants, namely, are S, SE, HSE, Autobiography, and SVR. Some of the standard features include premium LED headlamps with signature DRLs, 19-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, and LED headlamps on the outside.
As for the equipment inside, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport on-road price for the base-spec S trim gets you leather seats, 8-way powered driver seat, an 8-speaker system, Touch Pro Duo system with individual screens for the infotainment and climate control, fully-digital instrument cluster, touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel, activity key, ambient lighting, leather-wrapped steering wheel with electric adjust, keyless entry and go, to name a few.
Interior
As is a norm with Land Rover cars, the Sport carries an exceptional quality of materials and equipment on the interior front. As standard, you get ebony grained leather seats, of which the driver’s seat is powered, leather-wrapped steering wheel which feels exceptionally premium to hold and touch controls for just about anything. For a car this size, the space inside, too, is in abundance and seating five would not be an issue.
Engine Specifications & Performance
The Range Rover Sport comes with a number of engine-gearbox options. First in line is the 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol engine, which produces 296bhp and 400Nm of torque and comes mated to an 8-speed gearbox as a standard fit. Moving further, the entry-level diesel engine is the company’s 3.0-litre V6 motor, good for 255bhp and 600Nm of torque. Moving up the trims, there’s also a 3.0-litre V6 petrol, which makes 335bhp and 450Nm of torque. Both the 3.0-litre engines, too, are mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The top-of-the-line trims are powered with a 4.4-litre V6 oil burner, which produces a healthy 335bhp and 740Nm of torque. Lastly, the SVR and Autobiography trims are powered with a 5.0-litre V8 petrol, which develops 518bhp and 625Nm of torque. Both these engines are also mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
