Maruti Suzuki Ignis Highlights
With the Ignis, Maruti's aim is to cater to a younger car-buying populace. And with its unconventional, almost kei-car like styling, it's bound to appeal to a certain audience. First launched in 2017, the Ignis has received its first mid-cycle update in 2020. What you get for a slight bump in Maruti Suzuki Ignis' price is revamped bumpers, a rear spoiler, new front fascia, Smartplay Studio infotainment system, and a BS-VI approved engine.
There's no denying the fact that the Ignis does indeed look funky, despite its rather boxy proportions. The large, soft-edged rectangular headlamps; the radiator grille spread across, from one end to another and the pumped-up wheel arches – all add to an aggressive, quasi-SUV stance. Viewed from the side, you'll notice the rake in the roof, and the fish-gills like slats on the C-pillar – unique design touches never seen on a Maruti before. Styling at the rear isn't what you'd call pretty, but the sloping rear glass and the hunched tailgate is very apparent. With the addition of a rear spoiler, however, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis new model looks relatively more balanced than before. The Ignis sits on gloss-black 15-inch wheels.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis variants are as follows: the 1.2-litre petrol engine is offered on the base Sigma 1.2 MT, followed by the Delta 1.2 MT, the Zeta 1.2 MT and the Alpha 1.2 MT, while variants for the petrol automatic include the Delta 1.2, Zeta 1.2 and Alpha 1.2. For the marginal bump in Maruti Suzuki Ignis' on-road price, the only change inside is the new infotainment system. It also comes with USB, Aux-in and Bluetooth connectivity, while you can also have access to the system via a phone app. Moreover, it also consists of rear camera display and navigation. You also get puddle lamps, steering-mounted audio controls, electrically adjustable and folding ORVMs and an engine start-stop button. On the safety front, it comes equipped with ABS and EBD, dual front airbags and an ISOFIX child-seat mounting system.
Step inside, and you're greeted by an all-new design for the cabin. The clean-looking dashboard boasts of rectangular AC vents in the middle, with a huge tab-like touchscreen display mounted in the middle of the dash. Also note the unique toggle controls for the HVAC and other functions in the Alpha variant. You can also personalize your cabin with body-coloured grab-handles and centre console trim. Space in the Ignis is plentiful, with impressive legroom and headroom even for six-footers, while the huge glasshouse of the car gives the cabin an airy feeling. The new Smartplay Studio system is responsive and shows plenty of driver-centric data too.
Engine Specifications & Performance
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is powered a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 80bhp and 113Nm of torque. The engine is now compliant with the BS-VI emission standards and it sounds nice too when revved and also delivers ample grunt. The engine is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, with the option of an AMT available as well. Gear changes on the manual are short, and make the car more fun-to-drive. On bumpy roads, the Ignis remains planted and maintains good composure.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis' ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figures are rated at 20.89kpl for both the automatic and manual petrol models.
