<p><strong>The Skoda Slavia 1.5-litre TSI has stepped into a niche segment. The new Czech sedan, with a larger engine, could be an antidote to the SUV-obsessed Indian automotive market.</strong></p>

Now, Skoda has revealed the prices of the 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol variant. This variant is available in the Style trim and gets an option of a manual or a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.</p>

<p>As mentioned earlier, the Slavia 1.5 TSI is only available in the Style variant, which makes it the top-of-the-line trim level. That said, the Slavia is likely to get the Monte Carlo Edition, just like the Skoda Rapid back in the day.&nbsp;Now, the Kushaq is sure to be launched in the Monte Carlo Edition, with some premium features.</p>

<p>Coming back to the Slavia, the 1.5-litre engine is likely to be the choice of many enthusiasts. The engine puts out 148bhp and 250Nm, which is more than what the Kia Seltos’ and Hyundai Creta’s 1.4-litre turbo-petrol motor produces. This engine is offered with a three-pedal six-speed manual, especially in times when manufacturers are offering enthusiasts’ cars with a clutchless manual. While the automatic variant offers some convenience, the DSG gearbox is likely to be very sporty in nature given its quick shifts.</p>

<p>The Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI does not have a rival at the moment. Cars such as the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz rival the Slavia 1.0 TSI. The Slavia 1.5 could have been a rival to the Hyundai Elantra; however, <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/hyundai-elantra-pulled-off-the-official-website-110817/">the Korean carmaker has recently delisted the Elantra from its official website</a>. So, for now, this new top-of-the-line Slavia 1.5 TSI is in a league of its own.</p>

<p>Skoda is trying to make sedans great again with its all-new Slavia. Based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, and pitched as a thoroughly modern replacement for the Rapid, the Slavia will have its work cut out as it takes on the SUV craze. To help its case, Skoda has priced the 1.0 TSI variants of the Slavia quite aggressively, starting at Rs 10.69 lakh for the Active variant and going up to Rs 15.39 lakh for the top-spec Style variant. Before we see variant-wise pricing, let’s quickly run through what the Slavia offers.</p>

<p><strong>Skoda Slavia: Design</strong></p>

<p>In terms of design, the Slavia is typically Skoda-like, with clean lines leaning toward a design that's more timeless than in your face. Higher-end variants get LED lighting, both at the&nbsp;front and back, and there are splashes of chrome too.</p>

<p>Feature-wise, the Slavia is fully kitted out in the higher-end of the range, with ventilated seats, a sunroof, a digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch touchscreen, connected car tech, and a lot more.</p>

<p><strong>Skoda Slavia: Powertrain options</strong></p>

<p>Skoda will offer the Slavia in a few powertrain combinations. There are two engine options – a 1.0 TSI, producing 113bhp and 178Nm, and a more powerful 1.5 TSI, which churns out 148bhp and 250Nm. Either can be had with manual and automatic gearbox options, although the larger engine gets a DSG, while the smaller 1.0 TSI gets a torque converter auto.&nbsp;</p>

Skoda has brought the heat back to the sedan segment with the Slavia! Prices start at Rs 10.69 lakh for the 1.0 TSI variants, bookings are already open and the Slavia's ride, handling and feature list should give compact SUV buyers something to think about.

<p>Earlier this week, Zac Hollis Brand Director, Skoda India, <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/skoda-slavia-delivery-timeline-confirmed-110613/">confirmed that the deliveries of the upcoming Skoda Slavia mid-size sedan will commence in March this year</a>. Now, the firm has officially announced that the Slavia has gone into production, and the first sedan has rolled out of its Chakan plant in Pune.</p>

<p>Just like its sibling and cousin, the Kushaq and Taigun, the Slavia is based on the MQB-A0-IN, which in effect means that the new sedan is also heavily localised. This could mean that the aftersales experience will be light on the customer's pocket.</p>

Skoda Slavia enters production

The launch of the upcoming Skoda Slavia is likely to be held early next month. For now, the company has announced that the mid-size sedan has gone into production at its Chakan plant.

<p><strong>The Skoda Slavia is expected to make its debut in the coming month, but does that mean that it's the end of the road for the Skoda Rapid?</strong></p>

<p>Zac Hollis, Director, Sales and Marketing, SKODA India, has confirmed on the social network that the firm is planning on commencing deliveries of the new Slavia mid-size sedan by March 2022. This effectively means that the launch of the Skoda Slavia will take place in the Q1 of this year, most likely by mid-February, and its production will most likely begin in the coming weeks.</p>

<p>The Skoda Slavia is a mid-size sedan, which will be positioned above the Skoda Rapid. Yes, the Slavia is a slightly bigger car than the Rapid and also packs in the larger 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine. The lower variants will get the same 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, which is currently on offer in the Skoda Rapid and the Kushaq as well.</p>

<p>The gearbox will be a six-speed manual with both the engines; however, the smaller displacement unit will feature a six-speed torque converter auto, whereas the larger capacity engine will get the seven-speed DSG.</p>

<p>The Skoda Slavia will be launched in three variants – Active, Ambition, and Style. We’re expecting Skoda to introduce the top-of-the-line L&amp;K and the Onyx variant in due course of time. The prices are likely to start at the Rs 10 lakh mark.</p>

<p>Gurupratap Boparai, the Managing Director of Skoda Auto and Volkswagen India, has announced his resignation, which will come into effect from January 1, 2022. The Chairman of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India (SAVWIPL), Christian Cahn von Seelen, will take interim charge of the company. The firm has&nbsp;also notified&nbsp;that Boparai’s successor will be announced soon.</p>

<p>Gurpratap Boparai has spearheaded the group’s India 2.0 strategy and has spent over three years with SAVWIPL. In addition, Boparai has also played an important role in the adoption of assembling VW Group products in India. Also, Gurupratap Boparai has managed the merger of Volkswagen India,&nbsp;Skoda Auto India, and Volkswagen Group Sales, which form&nbsp;the SAVWIPL.</p>

I am confident that the leadership team that successfully executed the India 2.0 project under him is well-equipped to take the company to the next level, in line with our India strategy.’</p>

<p>Boparai has spent over 45 months with SAVWIPL. Before leading the SAVWIPL group, he was with Fiat India as the Assistant VP for Manufacturing and Powertrain Division, starting from&nbsp;2007,&nbsp;and two years later, he went on to the powertrain division altogether. In 2012, Gurupratap Boparai was appointed as the CEO of Fiat India.</p>

<p>Boparai has more than 25 years of experience in the industry, which also includes his tenure with TELCO (now Tata Motors), Tata Cummins, Iveco, and Ocap Chassis Parts.</p>

<p>Regarding his resignation, Boparai said, ‘It has been my honour and privilege to lead this fantastic team at SAVWIPL. This was a very difficult decision. I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together and confident that the team will continue to innovate, excel, and deliver beyond its commitments. I would like to thank Thomas Schaefer and Christian Cahn von Seelen and the team at HQ for their support and commitment to the India operations.’</p>
