<p>Toyota has announced fresh prices for the Fortuner SUV, with the 4x4 versions seeing a maximum price hike. With this update, the Japanese manufacturer's popular seven-seater SUV has become dearer by up to Rs 70,000. The company has increased the prices of its SUV with immediate effect, meaning it is no longer available at an earlier price. Consequently, the Toyota Fortuner range now starts at Rs 33.43 lakh (vs Rs 32.99 lakh earlier) and goes all the way up to Rs 51.44 lakh (up from Rs 50.74 lakh). The&nbsp;4x2&nbsp;variants have become expensive by Rs 44,000, while the 4x4 versions have become costlier by Rs 70,000. This means that the Fortuner 4x2 and the 4x4 retail from Rs 33.43 lakh to Rs 38.21 lakh and Rs 40.03 lakh to Rs 42.32 lakh&nbsp;in India, respectively.&nbsp;Moreover, the top-spec Fortuner GR-S has also undergone a price hike of Rs 70,000 and is now available at a revised price of Rs 51.44 lakh. <h2>Toyota Fortuner SUV: Powertrain, Performance</h2>

<p>Under the hood, the Fortuner gets two engine options&nbsp;– a 2.7-litre petrol and a 2.8-litre diesel. The petrol engine is tuned to churn out 164bhp and 245Nm of peak torque, while the diesel engine is capable of producing 201bhp and 500Nm of maximum torque. Both engines come mated to manual as well as automatic transmissions, with the diesel versions also coming with an optional 4x4 system.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Toyota September 2023 Sales Performance</h2>

<p>This September, Toyota India&nbsp;recorded its highest-ever total sales of 23,590 units, up from 15,378 units sold in the same month last year, which is a 53 per cent&nbsp;year-over-year increase. The carmaker dispatched&nbsp;22,168 vehicles to&nbsp;the domestic market and 1,422 units overseas.&nbsp;The company&nbsp;sold 1,23,939 models in the first six months of the current fiscal year, a 35 per cent&nbsp;increase over the same period last year when 91,843 units were sold.</p>

<h2>Toyota's Third Manufacturing Facility in India?</h2>

<p>Meanwhile, Toyota is also reportedly planning to&nbsp;build its third car factory in India to boost production capacity to 5 lakh units a year. According to some market reports, this new facility will have an annual production capacity of 80,000 to 1,20,000 units, which is expected to grow to about 2 lakh units over time.&nbsp;Currently, Toyota runs two factories in India – one in Bidadi and another in a town located in the southern Indian state of Karnataka.</p>

In addition to being more environmentally friendly than traditional fossil fuels, bioethanol is said to have a better octane rating than standard petrol. In Indonesia, the automaker has showcased the&nbsp;model in the prototype stage. To achieve 100% bioethanol compatibility, the carmaker modified the same engine that powers the Fortuner SUV that runs on petrol. The updated engine in the Flexy Fuel prototype can produce 161bhp and 243Nm when connected to a 5-speed automatic gearbox.</p>

Toyota Fortuner Flex-fuel Makes Global Debut at GIIAS 2023

Toyota unveiled the Fortuner Flexy Fuel at the 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). Along with the Toyota Fortuner Flexy Fuel, the firm also unveiled the Corolla Cross H2 and E-100 Bioethanol-compatible Corolla Cross concepts.

<p>Japanese carmaker Toyota has introduced a GR-S variant for its popular <a href="https://www.autox.com/suv-cars-in-india/" target="_blank">SUV</a> Fortuner at a price of Rs 48.43 lakh (ex-showroom). For the uninitiated, GR stands for Gazoo Racing (Toyota’s racing division) and the S stands for Sport. The Fortuner GR-S gets added cosmetic updates, new features and a retuned suspension. Compared to the equivalent (powertrain-wise) Legender variant, the Fortuner GR-S is commanding a premium of Rs 3.80 lakh.</p>

<p>For all that money, the Fortuner GR-S gets a new front grille. No, that’s not all. Both bumpers have been redesigned as well and Toyota has peppered the outside of the Fortuner GR-S with ‘GR’ badges and the allow wheels are fully black. On the inside, the interior is all-black with contrasting red stitching. The GR badge is present on the steering wheel as well, there is a new instrument cluster, and the pedals are new as well. Toyota is yet to properly reveal what kind of feature upgrades the Fortuner GR-S has undergone, although we do know that the suspension has been re-tuned.</p>

<p>As far as the powertrain goes, there are no options there. The Fortuner GR-S can only be had with the 2.8-litre diesel engine that makes 201bhp and 500Nm (with the 6-speed automatic). The 4x4 system is standard as well.</p>

<p>The Toyota <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/toyota/fortuner/">Fortuner</a> rivals the likes of MG <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mg/gloster/">Gloster</a>, Skoda <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/skoda/kodiaq/">Kodiaq</a> and the upcoming Jeep <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/jeep/meridian/">Meridian</a>. However, its prices have sky-rocketed in recent years and with the new Fortuner GR-S variant costing over Rs 50 lakh on-road, one has to ask, if the Toyota Fortuner has set its sights on German offerings like the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA and Audi Q3.</p>

<p>The Toyota Fortuner is not only a popular SUV in India but across a lot of international markets – especially the ASEAN countries. Now <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/toyota/">Toyota</a> has introduced a new limited edition of the Fortuner in the Thai market. This new edition is called the Toyota Fortuner Commander and the Japanese giant will only produce 1,000 units of the same. For clarification, the Commander edition of the Fortuner will only be sold in Thailand and the India market will continue with the standard Fortuner and the Legender.</p>

<p>Speaking of the Fortuner Commander, this edition is based on the standard Fortuner and not the Legender – the Legender as a subtly different fascia. The alloy wheels, however, have been borrowed from the Legender. The chrome bits found on the exterior have been blacked out. The roof and the pillars sport the colour black as well, summing up into a dual-tone colour scheme.</p>

<p>The cabin features dual-tone interiors as well. The limited-edition SUV gets red and black leather upholstery which we have seen on the India-spec Fortuner Legender.</p>

<p>Some key features that the Fortuner Commander gets over the India-spec SUV are 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitor and a rear cross-traffic alert. While the SUV misses out on an ADAS system, something is better than nothing.</p>

<p>Mechanically, the Fortuner Commander is the same as the India spec model. A 201bhp 2.8-litre turbo-diesel mill powers the SUV. Interestingly, overseas, the Fortuner also gets the smaller 2.4-litre turbo-diesel motor which Toyota India offers with the Innova Crysta.</p>

<p>Toyota says that the Fortuner Commander features a re-tuned suspension setup which has improved the overall ride quality, however, the proof of the pudding is in the tasting.</p>

<p>Currently, the Indian market is waiting for the price announcement of the Toyota Hilux. Gradually by the end of this year, Toyota India is likely to launch their version of the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/maruti-suzuki/ciaz/">Maruti Suzuki Ciaz</a> and Ertiga. The outgoing Innova Crysta and the Fortuner are likely to be updated next year.</p>
