The BS-VI Splendor iSmart, with a new engine & spec upgrades, marks Hero's entry into the BS-VI two-wheeler segment.

Hero MotoCorp has formally entered the BS-VI arena today with the launch of its first BS-VI-compliant product - the Splendor iSmart. In fact, the Splendor iSmart also takes the crown for becoming India's first BS-VI motorcycle. Launched at ₹ 64,900 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the BS-VI Splendor iSmart is more expensive by about ₹ 7,500 (approx.) when compared to the BS-IV Splendor iSmart+ IBS. However, the BS-VI upgrade isn't the only one on offer with the Splendor iSmart. In fact, Hero MotoCorp has introduced a handful of mechanical & visual changes.

Powering the Splendor iSmart is a new 113.2cc engine with Programmable Fuel Injection (PFi), i3s & 6-sensor tech. The six sensors in question here are the Manifold Air Pressure Sensor, Throttle Position Sensor, Digital Fuel Injector & Oxygen Sensor, Engine Oil Temperature Sensor, Air Inlet Temperature Sensor & Bank Angle Sensor. The air-cooled motor, thanks to the PFi tech, produces 10 per cent more torque (9.9Nm) but slightly less power (9bhp). In comparison, the BS-IV Splendor iSmart+ produces 9.4bhp a& 9Nm of torque. Though the figures have not been revealed, Hero claims the fuel efficiency has gone up as well. With the BS-VI upgrade, Hero claims the new motor produces 45 per cent less Carbon Monoxide (CO) & a staggering 88 per cent less Nitrogen Oxide (NOx).

The Splendor iSmart sits on a new Diamond frame (with better weight optimisation). Other changes include better ground clearance (up from 165mm to 180mm, without changing the seat height), more front suspension travel (up from 105mm to 120mm), longer wheelbase (1,270mm) and increased headlight brightness. Even the fuel tank capacity has gone up by a litre (up from 8.5-litres to 9.5-litres). Visual changes include a refreshed two-tone colour pattern.

While select dealerships have already received some units of the new Splendor iSmart, Hero claims the bike should be available pan-India in the next 3-4 weeks. It will be available in three colour options: Blue, Red & Grey.
