Hero Karizma ZMR relaunched at Rs 1.08 lakh

Hero Karizma ZMR is back on sale with BS-IV approved powertrain.

Hero has silently re-launched the Karizma ZMR in the market. Discontinued in April 2017 – when the BS-IV norms came into full force – the Karizma nameplate is now making a comeback in two variants – standard and dual tone. The former is priced at ₹1.08 lakh, while the latter retails for ₹1.10 lakh – both are ex-showroom, Delhi.

Mechanically, the motorcycle is unchanged from the previous model, apart from the fact that it’s now BS-IV approved. This means that it gets the same trusty old 223cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled and fuel-injected engine that produces 20bhp at 9,000rpm and 19.7Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox. The braking system includes discs at both ends – 276mm at front and 240mm at the rear. There’s still no ABS on offer.

Although Hero has brought the ZMR back, there’s no denying that it’s a little long in the tooth, especially when you compare it with newer offerings from other manufacturers. That said, the Karizma brand has been one of the favourite among tourers in the past and given its pricing now, it may attract some buyers. But even then, Hero needs to bring in a more capable and modern replacement of the ZMR, if they want to keep up with the times.

The relaunched version of the Karizma ZMR sits right between the Bajaj Pulsar RS200 and Suzuki Gixxer SF.
