Hero MotoCorp has just launched the Mavrick 440, its first middleweight bike for India, for a price range of Rs 2.19 lakh to Rs 2.24 lakh (ex-showroom). The Mavrick is based on the same platform as the Harley-Davidson X 440, although it sports a different design. It features a robust fuel tank with integrated tank extensions, a round LED headlamp with an H-shaped daytime running light, small-sized indicators, a single-piece saddle, and a slim rear end. It’s available in three variants – Base, Mid, and Top. Since the price of the motorcycle has been revealed, we take a detailed look at what each of these variants has to offer.

Hero Mavrick 440: Base Variant

Hero Mavrick 440 Base

The Base is the entry-level variant of the Hero Mavrick 440 and is offered at Rs. 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It has spoked wheels with tube-type tyres, a white-coloured fuel tank and rear panel, and matte silver tank shrouds. Being a base version, it misses out on Bluetooth/Smartphone connectivity, unlike the top-spec variant. Hero offers the Base variant in just one colour, called Arctic White.

Hero Mavrick 440: Mid Variant

The Mid is the mid-spec variant of the Mavrick 440. Unlike the Base variant, it comes equipped with alloy wheels that are shod with tubeless tyres; however, it misses out on smartphone connectivity, like the base version. The Mid comes in two colours – Celestial Blue and Fearless Red – and is priced at Rs 2.14 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hero Mavrick 440: Top Variant

The top-of-the-range variant, called the Top, carries a sticker price of Rs 2.24 lakh (ex-showroom), making it about Rs 25,000 more expensive than the Base. Like the Mid, it also gets alloy wheels, but they are diamond-cut with a machined finish. The engine cooling fins also get a machined finish. Moreover, it also gets 3D badging on the fuel tank, a Bluetooth-enabled digital console with call/message alerts, turn-by-turn navigation, and more. The Top variant can be had with tubeless tyres and in two colours – Phantom Black and Enigma Black.

Hero Mavrick 440: Powertrain

Since the new Mavrick 440 is built on the same platform as the Harley-Davidson X 440, it is powered by the same 440cc single-cylinder air/oil-cooled engine, which is mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch. While both the Hero Mavrick 440 and the Harley-Davidson X 440 use the same powertrain and are equally powerful (27bhp at 6,000rpm), the former produces 36Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm, which is 2Nm less than that of the latter (38Nm at 4,000rpm). The Mavrick 440 tips the scales at 187kgs (kerb), which is 3.5kgs less than the X 440.

Hero Mavrick 440: Price

Price-wise, the Hero Mavrick 440 starts at Rs 1.99 lakh, while the top-spec version sets you back by Rs 2.24 lakh – which is still more affordable than its platform sibling's entry-level variant (Rs 2.40 lakh). All prices are ex-showroom. Bookings for the Hero bike are already underway.

The Hero Mavrick 440 rivals the likes of the Triumph Speed 400, Jawa 350, Honda CB350, and Royal Enfield Classic 350.
