The recently released Himalayan by Royal Enfield is the latest addition to the sportier adventure bike category in India. Priced from Rs 2.69 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom), the new Royal Enfield Himalayan features the brand's new Sherpa 450 engine that is liquid-cooled and produces 39.5bhp of maximum power at 8,000rpm. It has three variants: Base, Pass, and Summit, and several amenities such as Ride-by-Wire (RBW), LED lighting, switchable rear ABS, spoked wheels, and more. The Royal Enfield Himalayan faces tough competition from several other bikes in its class, such as the BMW G 310 GS, the Triumph Scrambler 400 X, the Yezdi Adventure, and the KTM 390 Adventure. New Royal Enfield Himalayan vs KTM 390 Adventure: Engine

The Himalayan is powered by a 452cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, mated to a six-speed transmission, and a slip-and-assist clutch. The engine produces 40Nm of peak torque at 5,500rpm and 39.5bhp at 8,000rpm. The new KTM 390 Adventure, on the contrary, is propelled by a 373.2cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that produces 43bhp at 9,000rpm and 37Nm at 7,500rpm. It has a six-speed transmission, a slip-and-assist clutch, and a quick shifter for transmission. Although the Himalayan produces greater torque, the KTM 390 Adventure generates more power than the Royal Enfield bike.

There is a different paint job on each of the three Himalayan variations. The Pass variant is accessible in Slate Himalayan Salt and Poppy Blue paintworks, while the Base model is only available in Kaza Brown. However, Hanle Black and Kamet White are available paint schemes for the higher-end Summit edition. In contrast, there are two hues available for the standard KTM 390 Adventure: Atlantic Blue and Dark Galvano Black.

A small windscreen, split-style seating arrangement, 14.5-litre fuel tank, and alloy wheels measuring 19-inch in the front and 17-inch in the back are some design elements of the KTM model. In comparison, the new Himalayan features a 17-inch front wheel, a 21-inch rear wheel, an integrated taillight, a 17-litre fuel tank, and increased handlebars.

The new version of the Himalayan motorcycle has a multitude of features, including Ride-by-Wire with two riding modes, switchable ABS, a 4-inch TFT screen that can be connected to a smartphone, and turn indicators. In contrast, the KTM bike offers various equipment, such as ride-by-wire, cornering ABS, traction control, and a colour TFT display with connectivity options.

New Royal Enfield Himalayan vs KTM 390 Adventure: Price

The Himalayan's entry-level variant costs Rs 2.69 lakh, while the mid-spec Pass model costs Rs 2.74 lakh. Meanwhile, the higher-spec Summit version is available for Rs 2.79 lakh (Kamet White Paint option) and Rs 2.84 lakh (Hanle Black Paint option), respectively. The KTM 390 Adventure, on the other hand, is a little more expensive, costing Rs 3.39 lakh for the alloy version and Rs 3.61 lakh for the spoked version. All specified prices are ex-showroom.
