Hyundai has unveiled the 2022 Tucson SUV today in India, which will be launched on August 10. For the 2022 model year, the Tucson comes as a brand new model, with a new design and major mechanical changes. In the domestic market, it will take on the likes of Tata Harrier, MG Hector, and Jeep Compass.

In terms of dimensions, the new Hyundai Tucson has grown in all aspects. The car is now longer by 150mm at 4,630mm and wider by 15mm at 1,865mm. It also sits higher by 5mm at 1,665mm in its new avatar. However, the notable jump comes in the wheelbase, which has been stretched by 85mm at 2,755mm. The increase in the wheelbase and length means that there is likely to be more room inside the cabin.

The new-gen Tucson comes with a whole new design language, which seems to be more aggressive and sharper. At the front, there is a new Parametric grille, with integrated LED DRLs and LED headlights. The car also gets a new front bumper. Other notable design elements include angular body cladding, blacked-out pillars with a floating roof, and a new LED taillight design with an LED light strip across the tailgate. It sits on a fresh set of alloy wheels, with contrasting-coloured roof rails and chrome surrounds on the window.

Inside, the new Hyundai Tucson gets a major upgrade in terms of features as well. In line with the international model, the car in India will also come with a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and BlueLink connected car tech. In addition to all this, the new Hyundai Tucson will also get touch controls for the climate control systems, ambient lighting, an e-parking brake, and a switch for gear changes instead of a conventional gear lever.

The Tucson will also be the first car from Hyundai’s stable to get Level 2 ADAS technology, which includes safety features like forward-collision warning, blind-spot assist, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. Other safety features include six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, ESC, hill-descent control, and all-wheel disc brakes.

In terms of powertrain, the car gets one petrol and one diesel option. The former is a 2.0-litre unit, which outputs 152bhp and 192Nm of torque through a 6-speed automatic transmission. The diesel option, on the other hand, is a 2.0-litre unit, which outputs 181bhp and 416Nm of torque via an 8-speed automatic transmission.
