2023 BMW X5 with Mild-Hybrid Tech Launched in India at Rs 93.90 Lakh

The new BMW X5 starts at Rs 93.90 lakh and goes up to Rs 1.07 crore. Prices are ex-showroom. In the Indian market, the new product from the house of BMW competes against the likes of the Audi S5 Sportback, the Mercedes-Benz GLE, the Audi Q7, and more.

The BMW X5 facelift has finally made its way to the Indian shores. The 2023 version of the X5 has been launched in both petrol and diesel engine options, which are offered with the latest generation 48V mild-hybrid technology. Prospective buyers have a choice of two variants - xLine and M Sport, both of which are available on the in-line, 6-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. Speaking of its pricing, the xLine variant has a starting price of Rs 93.90 lakh for the BMW xDrive40i and goes up to Rs 95.90 lakh for the BMW xDrive30d. Coming to the M Sport variant, the BMW xDrive40i starts at Rs 1.05 crore (approx.), while the BMW xDrive30d costs Rs 1.07 crore (approx.). All prices are ex-showroom. The launch of the new BMW X5 comes a few months after the German luxury carmaker revealed the X5 and X6 facelift for the international market.

According to some industry reports, the unofficial bookings for the X5 facelift have been underway in India, for a token amount of Rs 50,000. Kindly check with the authorised dealer with respect to the same. For those unaware, the current-generation BMW X5 first made its debut in 2019, and this is the first facelift for the current-generation X5.

2023 BMW X5: Exterior

Cosmetically, the new BMW X5 features a tweaked bumper with vertically-oriented air intakes, an illuminated kidney grille, matrix adaptive LED headlamps with blue accents, arrow-shaped LED daytime running lights, and a wider central air intake. At the rear, the car comes with new LED tail lamps with X-shaped inserts, updated 21-inch alloy wheels, as well as a revised bumper.

Moreover, the facelifted version has M-specific elements offered with the M Sport variant, including a front apron with an M-specific design, and roof rails in M high-gloss Shadowline exterior trim. For the exterior colour options, you have a choice of Carbon Black, Brooklyn Grey, Skyscraper Grey, Mineral White, Tanzanite Blue, and Black Sapphire.

Moving to the inside, the M Sport variant of the 2023 BMW X5 features BMW Individual leather 'Merino' upholstery in Tartufo, Ivory White, and Black shades. The xLine variant, on the other hand, gets perforated Sensafin upholstery and standard sport seats. The M Sport comes with Comfort seats with full electric adjustment for the front occupants as well as active seat ventillation.

Furthermore, the car features a new single-piece curved display on the dash, housing a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument console. The infotainment unit has the latest version of the iDrive system - version 8.0. Additionally, the SUV also receives a panoramic sunroof with LED illumination, glass-cut control buttons, a 4-zone automatic climate control system, a Harmon Kardon surround sound system, and a comfort access system.

The M-specific interior package includes an M leather steering wheel, M headliner anthracite, M footrest and pedal covers, M-specific car key, etc.  

2023 BMW X5: Engine and Gearbox

Coming to the heart of the matter, the facelifted version of the X5 gets a petrol engine and a diesel engine option, both of them are in-line, 6-cylinder engines. A 3.0-litre petrol engine offered with the X5 40i cranks out 376bhp of maximum output and 520Nm of peak torque. The car can do 0 to 100km/h acceleration in 5.4 seconds. A 3.0-litre diesel unit in the X5 30d, on the other hand, makes 282bhp and 650Nm. This version can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 6.1 seconds.

Besides, the SUV features an 8-speed automatic gearbox and BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system as standard, along with a 48V battery and an electric motor. The end result is an increased power and torque output of 12bhp and 200Nm, respectively. However, the newly launched X5 in India misses out on a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine with hybrid motors (523bhp and 750Nm) and a plug-in hybrid with 482bhp and 700Nm.

As far as safety goes, the 2023 BMW X5 is packed with features, such as 6 airbags, attentive assistance, an electric parking brake with auto hold, cornering brake control, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a crash sensor, cruise control, remote parking, surround view camera, and more.

BMW India Sales Performance for FY2023

In the financial year 2023, BMW registered a 29 per cent increase and sold 11,175 units in India. The BMW 3 Series was the best seller in 2023 with 3,438 units, followed by the X1, 2 Series, X5, 5 Series, the X7, etc. The BMW X5 recorded a 57 per cent jump by selling over 1,000 units but lagged behind its rival - the Mercedes-Benz GLE (more than 2,000 units).
