Hyundai N Line confirms that the Veloster N for the first time will receive an automatic transmission option, the all-new 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

Hyundai N Line performance division has confirmed that the Veloster N will get a dual-clutch automatic transmission via a video clip posted on the Hyundai N Instagram page and its YouTube channel. This is the first time the Veloster N will receive an automatic transmission option as it’s currently mated to only a 6-speed manual gearbox. The first time the DCT rumours surfaced was back in 2019 when the hot hatch was being tested at the Nurburgring Ring in Germany. Originally, Hyundai had plans to reveal the Veloster N at the New York Motor Show, but unfortunately, it got cancelled due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

So, what are the key upgrades that we can expect from the new Veloster N? Let’s take a closer look at Hyundai’s new video teaser. The first thing that the clip reveals is the automatic transmission’s gear lever, which has an N logo on top and looks similar to the Elantra GT N Line. Though the Veloster N gets a brand new wet-clutch 8-speed transmission, unlike the old 7-speed automatic one the Elantra has. This new transmission will be equipped on future N line up vehicles. Apart from this, the steering wheel now sports aluminium polished paddle shifters. The current Veloster N is only available in front-wheel-wheel.

The other upgrade is the new performance-oriented front seats, which get illuminated N logos on the backrest. According to reports, they are supposed to be heated seats.

Now moving on to the powertrain, the new Veloster N will retain the 2-litre turbo petrol motor, which is available in two power trims — 246bhp Standard and 271bhp Performance. The former does 0-100kmph in 6.4 seconds and the latter in 6.1 seconds. So, will the dual-clutch transmission make the Veloster N sprint faster, that we will only know once the performance specifications are revealed?

As Hyundai has already started confirming these upgrades by putting put video teasers on its social media platform, we expect the Veloster N to break cover soon.
