Maruti Suzuki has showcased the Fronx Flex-Fuel Vehicle (FFV) at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. The model can operate on different ethanol-petrol blends, reflecting the company’s focus on adapting to future fuel and emission standards in India and other key markets. The FFV forms part of Maruti Suzuki’s plan to widen its fuel-efficient lineup and prepare for the shift towards ethanol-based fuels. This step aligns with India’s efforts to increase ethanol blending in petrol and reduce dependence on conventional fuels. The overall structure and platform remain unchanged, with most of the updates concentrated in the engine and fuel delivery systems.

The Fronx FFV uses a 1.2-litre petrol engine that runs on ethanol-petrol blends ranging from E20 to E85. It is compatible with India’s current E20 fuel and ready for higher ethanol content once it becomes available. The engine has been tuned to handle ethanol’s chemical properties while maintaining consistent performance. This setup positions Maruti Suzuki to meet future policy requirements and supports the government’s target of expanding ethanol use in passenger vehicles.
The Fronx Flex-Fuel version keeps the same design and size as the standard Fronx. It can be recognised by green decals and a ‘Suzuki Flex Fuel’ badge on the exterior.
Ethanol use can lower vehicle emissions compared with pure petrol, contributing to reduced pollution levels when adopted widely. Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce more alternative-fuel models as part of its long-term goal of carbon neutrality. The company continues to develop technologies that support future emission norms and sustainable transport.

Suzuki also displayed the Victoris Compressed Bio-methane Gas (CBG) model alongside the Fronx FFV. Both vehicles reflect the company’s multi-fuel approach towards clean mobility. The Fronx Flex-Fuel version is expected to enter production at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat facility, with an India launch planned for 2026. The Japan-spec model included features such as heated seats and driver assistance systems, showing the flexibility of the platform for different markets.
