The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is the latest entrant in the sub-4 metre SUV segment of the Indian car market. The new SUV from the house of Maruti Suzuki is fresh, sporty, and packed with modern technology. The Fronx's competitive pricing, appealing design, and a host of new features bring it on a level playing field with its rivals such as the Renault Kiger, the Nissan Magnite, the Tata Punch, the Kia Sonet, and the Hyundai Venue. So, this time for comparison, we have decided to pit the Maruti Suzuki Fronx against the Hyundai Venue, which is considered as one of the best-selling vehicles in its segment. The Venue is a premium compact SUV that follows Hyundai's global design language and offers premium features. As of now, it retails between Rs 7.72 lakh and Rs 13.14 lakh. Prices are ex-showroom. Now, let's get started with their comparison:

Maruti Suzuki Fronx vs Hyundai Venue: Powertrain & Performance

Let's compare their engines first. The Hyundai Venue is offered with 3 engine options: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo petrol, and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder U2 CRDi diesel. The 1.2-litre NA petrol engine is only on sale in the country with a manual transmission option, whereas the 1.0-litre turbo petrol unit comes with a 6-speed iMT (clutchless automatic) and a 7-speed DCT. Notably, Hyundai also offers drive modes and paddle shifters on the DCT variant. And, the 1.5-litre diesel engine in the Venue delivers 114bhp and 250Nm with a 6-speed manual transmission. The new diesel engine is now equipped with VGT (variable-geometry) technology, not a fixed geometry turbocharger.

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx, on the other hand, is available with only two petrol engine options - there is no diesel option. The Maruti Suzuki's all-new 1.0-litre Turbo Boosterjet petrol engine is paired with an option of a 5-speed manual transmission as well as a 6-speed automatic. Here, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx falls short in terms of power and torque figures, in comparison to the Hyundai Venue (as shown in the table below). The Fronx's second engine option is a 1.2-litre Dual-Jet Dual-VVT petrol that comes mated to two transmission options - a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx vs Hyundai Venue: Exterior

Maruti Suzuki has given its Fronx a modern and sporty design language, targeting the youth. The changes to the exterior are in line with those of the Grand Vitara and the Baleno. The front section of the Fronx is dominated by a big hexagonal grille divided by a chrome bar, sleeker-looking LED headlights, and DRLS. Its front bumper sports faux skid plates in a grey shade. With a coupe-like roofline, 16-inch precision-cut dual-tone alloy wheels, chiselled wheel arches, muscular fenders, and side body cladding, the new Fronx looks sporty and youthful. At the rear, the car comes with LED block taillights, an LED strip running across the width, and a roof spoiler.

While the Hyundai Venue is based on the 'Sensuous Sportiness' design language, featuring a large cascading grille with chunky chrome embellishments and re-profiled bumpers. The Venue's styling with sharp headlights, bold lines, new turn indicators in a 3-piece horizontal graphic, and new connected split-LED taillights is sure to grab attention. In addition, the compact SUV from Hyundai has a flat roofline, silver roof rails, body cladding on the doors, and silver faux plates. This SUV sits on stylish 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
