Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door Showcased in India; Top Highlights

Day 2 of the Auto Expo 2023 saw several unveilings with the new-gen Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door being one of them. The lifestyle 4X4 SUV was among the long-awaited models in India and the carmaker utilized the platform of Asia's biggest auto show to reveal the model and announce its official bookings. At a booking price of Rs 11,000, it has been reported that the SUV has already received 3000 pre-orders and currently has a three-month waiting list. As of yet, the premium Indian carmaker hasn't shared anything regarding the price of the model but it's expected to cost between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom) since it is a sub-4 metre SUV. The iconic Jimny 5-Door was unveiled alongside the new Maruti Suzuki Fronx. With the introduction of these two SUVs in India, the carmaker reportedly aims at a bigger share of the segment. The five-door vehicle will come with four-wheel drive as standard. Compared to its three-door form, it strives to be more practical and lightweight. Powertrain

Mechanically, the new Jimny will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol K15B engine that offers 103bhp and 130Nm. It will come mated to either a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic transmission. The same engine is found in models like the Ertiga, the Ciaz, and the most recent Brezza. 

Variants & Colours

Initially, the SUV will get two variants - the Zeta and the Alpha in India. It will be made available across the market in seven exterior colours comprising Sizzling Red, Nexa Blue, Granite Grey, Pearl Arctic White, Bluish Black, Sizzling Red with bluish-black roof, and Kinetic Yellow with black roof.

Safety Features

The variants of the lifestyle 4X4 SUV will include dual-front airbags, side and curtain airbags, a brake limited slip differential, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill hold control, hill descent control, and a brake assist feature as standard. Rear-view cameras, side-impact door beams, seatbelt pre-tensioners/force limiters, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, engine immobilizers, and three-point emergency locking retractor seatbelts are additional features offered by the new model.

Dimensions and Design

All other Maruti Suzuki vehicles sold in India have a monocoque chassis, however, the five-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny will sport a ladder frame chassis. The 5-door version will be 300mm longer than the 3-door version and boasts a longer wheelbase. It will be a boxy-shaped SUV with flared wheel arches, an upright front grille with circular headlights, and rectangular taillights at the rear. The Zeta variant will get steel wheels whereas the Alpha version will have alloy wheels.

Prices & Rivals

Owing to the Maruti Suzuki's ability to offer competitive pricing, the Jimny may end up being the most well-liked SUV in its category. The 1.5-litre petrol engine is fuel-efficient and could easily cover long distances.
