New Skoda Kodiaq enters production

With just a few days left for its impending launch, the Skoda Kodiaq has officially entered production at the brand's Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra. Expect the same 188bhp/320Nm 2.0-litre TSI petrol motor to perform duty in the Kodiaq facelift that already powers the Superb and the new Octavia.

Despite the claims that the Group's diesel engines might make a comeback in the BS6 era with full-size SUVs like the Skoda Kodiaq, it does not seem to be the case.

The Skoda Kodiaq has been an interesting product ever since its launch in India in 2017 due to the fact that in the BS4 era, Skoda's full-size SUV was a diesel-only entity. And now, when the Kodiaq facelift will arrive on our shores next month, it will be a petrol-only model. Why? Well, because of the VW Group's broader aim of discarding diesel engines and focusing only on its petrol TSI engines.

Speaking of the Kodiaq facelift, the Czech brand had confirmed in August that the updated SUV will be launched in India in January 2022. And with just a few days left for its impending launch, the SUV has officially entered production at the brand's Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra. As for the engine option, expect the same 188bhp and 320Nm 2.0-litre TSI petrol motor to power the Kodiaq facelift that also does duty in the Superb and the new Octavia.

Sharing his thoughts on the occasion, Gurpratap Boparai (MD – Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited) said, 'The New Kodiaq is part of the overall SUV offensive of the Group in India...it will appeal to the ever-growing tribe of Indian customers looking for a large, luxurious SUV, suited for city and weekend drives.' Adding to this, Zac Hollis (Brand Director – Skoda Auto India) said, 'The New Kodiaq is the second SUV to be introduced in India this year by Skoda...it further drives home our vision to provide our customers in India a complete product portfolio.'

With the facelift, the 2021 Kodiaq offers sharper styling, thanks to a bold looking multi-slat grille, slimmer LED headlamps, and a redesigned bumper at the front. Much like any facelift, the Kodiaq gets revised styling at the back as well. Inside, Skoda's new two-spoke steering wheel is expected to be among the biggest highlights, apart from any new features that might trickle down from the Euro-spec model.
