Renault has revealed key details on the product strategy for India at the Future Ready event in Chennai. Among the key highlights was the Bridger sub-4m SUV, which will be a made-in-India model (to be manufactured at the brand’s Chennai facility). According to Renault, the production-spec version will be powered by a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. While official specifications are yet to be confirmed, the unit is likely to be a three-cylinder motor producing around 113bhp, potentially derived from the new global-spec Renault Clio 6. The Bridger will be based on Renault’s new RGMP (Renault Group Modular Platform), a versatile multi-energy structure capable of supporting ICE, hybrid, and fully electric powertrains. An EV version of the Bridger is also under consideration. The SUV is expected to make its India debut at the Bharat Mobility Expo next year.

The Bridger SUV, in its production avatar, is likely to retain the silhouette and majority of the design elements seen on the concept. Key highlights include illuminated ‘Renault’ lettering on a large black finished panel, a tapering window line, sharp blade-like LED lights, beefy squared-off fenders with prominent wheel-arch cladding, a sculpted blacked-out skid plate, C-pillar-mounted rear door handles, and large square-spoke alloy wheels, sharp LED taillamps and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. That said, Renault may make a few adjustments to better suit production-spec requirements.

Renault is yet to reveal the interior of the upcoming Bridger SUV, but the brand has already highlighted its focus on space and practicality. The production-spec model is claimed to offer ‘exceptional’ cabin room, with a strong emphasis on passenger comfort. It is expected to feature a 400-litre boot, which should make it an ideal companion for daily usage as well as longer journeys. Renault also states that the Bridger will deliver best-in-class interior space, with generous knee room and ample headroom for occupants.
The upcoming compact SUV from Renault will face competition from some of the popular names in the segment, including the Hyundai Venue, the Kia Sonet, the Mahindra XUV 3XO, and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. Renault could price the Bridger SUV starting at around Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom).
