Skoda Kylaq Production to Commence By October 2024

Skoda will begin production of its first compact SUV, the Kylaq, starting in October 2024. Upon its launch, the Kylaq will compete with the Tata Nexon, the Hyundai Venue, the Kia Sonet, and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza in India.

Skoda Kylaq Compact SUV

Skoda will begin production of its first compact SUV, the Kylaq, starting in October 2024, according to industry reports. The SUV is expected to be available in the domestic market first, followed by foreign countries. Its yearly production rate will likely be between 50,000 and 70,000 units or 4100 to 5800 units per month. Although Skoda has not yet announced the SUV's launch date, the Kylaq is anticipated to hit our shores by early next year. It is expected to cost between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom) and come with the same engine as the Kushaq and Slavia. Skoda Kylaq: Powertrain

The new Skoda SUV will be constructed on the MQB A0-IN platform, which also accommodates cars such as the Slavia, Taigun, and Kushaq. It will likely include the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine as the Slavia and Kushaq. This unit develops 114bhp and 175Nm and comes mated to a six-speed MT or a six-speed AT.

Skoda Kylaq: Design and Features

Skoda has not revealed full images of its compact SUV. However, spy pictures and official teasers show that the Kylaq will have inverted L-shaped LED taillights, a redesigned grille, an aggressive bonnet, and split LED headlights. Features-wise, it could include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital driver’s display, automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger, and a sunroof. Skoda may equip the SUV with electronic stability control (ESC), a 360-degree camera, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and up to six airbags for safety.

Skoda Kylaq: India Launch Timeline

The Kylaq SUV is likely to make its global debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January 2025. With production set to begin in October 2024, the SUV could go on sale here by February of next year. In terms of market competition, the Kylaq will lock horns with the Kia Sonet, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, the Tata Nexon, and the Hyundai Venue.
