Tata Motors has launched petrol versions of the Harrier and Safari, powered by the new 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo-petrol engine, offering buyers an option beyond diesel. The Harrier petrol starts at Rs 12.89 lakh ex-showroom, while the Safari petrol comes in from Rs 13.29 lakh. Until now, both the Harrier and Safari were offered only with diesel power since their debut. With petrol variants now on sale, Tata aims to widen its reach, attract city users, and offer more flexibility across price points, trims, and buyer preferences in this competitive segment across India in 2026 for interested SUV buyers.

The Harrier and Safari petrol models carry the same design that buyers already know. Tata has not made any visual changes specific to the petrol versions, so the overall look stays familiar across the range. Dark editions continue to be offered on selected trims from Pure X onwards for both SUVs. These variants remain part of the line-up without any mechanical or body changes linked to the new engine option.

Higher variants of both SUVs focus on equipment. The highlight is the 14.53-inch Samsung Neo QLED touchscreen paired with Dolby Atmos and a 10-speaker JBL audio system. Other features include dual camera washers, memory ORVMs with auto-dip, a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated seats. The Safari also offers six-seater layouts, including captain-seat configurations on select mid and top trims.
Both SUVs use the same 1.5-litre Hyperion TGDi turbo-petrol engine. It produces 170bhp and 280Nm of torque. Tata developed this engine in-house, and it first appeared in the Sierra in 2025. Power goes to the front wheels, keeping the setup simple and familiar for everyday driving.
