Tata Motors has officially released a crash test video of the 2026 Tata Punch facelift, and it is one that car enthusiasts will want to watch closely. The test was carried out at Tata’s Pune facility, where the Punch facelift was driven into the rear of a stationary truck at 50kmph. The truck was fitted with an underrun protection bar to reflect normal road conditions. Unlike routine lab-based tests, this setup focuses on how a compact SUV behaves in a real-world scenario involving a heavier vehicle. The full-frontal impact highlights how the Punch manages crash energy, how fast safety systems respond, and how well the cabin structure protects occupants in a situation many Indian drivers worry about.

The crash footage shows why the Punch has built a reputation around safety. The cabin remains intact after impact, with no visible deformation to the A-pillars or B-pillars. All four doors open normally once the car comes to rest, which is a key indicator of structural integrity. The front end absorbs most of the impact, as expected, while the passenger cell stays protected. The Punch facelift continues to use Tata’s ALFA platform, shared with the Altroz, and relies on high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel in critical zones.
The video clearly captures the rapid deployment of safety systems. Dual front airbags deploy instantly, followed by the side and curtain airbags. Along with airbags, the Punch facelift offers ABS with EBD, electronic stability programme, traction control and hill-hold assist as standard.
ISOFIX mounts are included for child seats, while a 360-degree camera supports daily driving and parking.
The 2026 Tata Punch facelift comes from a 1.2-litre petrol engine, offered in naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms. Buyers can choose between a manual gearbox and an AMT automatic, keeping things simple for city use.
While the crash test focuses on safety, the footage also shows how the suspension and core structure stay aligned even after impact, suggesting that the mechanical layout is designed to handle sudden loads without compromising the cabin.
