Porsche 963 RSP

Porsche has unveiled the 963 RSP, a road-legal hypercar directly inspired by its 963 LMDh race car. Built to honour the 50th anniversary of the iconic Porsche 917 driven by Count Rossi, the 963 RSP combines track-level performance with street-ready features. This one-off prototype retains its original LMDh chassis, slightly modified for public roads, and is even registered with French number plates. Unlike most road cars, the 963 RSP keeps its racing spirit alive—engineered to deliver an authentic motorsport experience for the road while celebrating Porsche’s long-standing endurance racing heritage.  The car will be displayed at top automotive events, including Le Mans, the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and Monterey Car Week—highlighting its global appeal and exclusivity.

Porsche Cars North America President and CEO Timo Resch, said: 'This really started out as a "what if?" - a passion project by a small team of enthusiasts at Penske and at Porsche who together imagined a version of the 963 that really resembled as closely as possible the spirit and appearance of the Count Rossi 917. The 917 from the story was every inch a race car - albeit one driven on the road - and we took the same approach with the 963 RSP. It uses beautiful materials of the best quality available, but is still every bit a race car underneath.'

To make the 963 RSP street-legal without sacrificing performance, Porsche made specific modifications. These include closed wheel well vents, softer dampers, and Michelin treaded rain tyres on 18-inch OZ wheels. Functional updates like turn signals, a horn, number plate mounts, and increased ground clearance were also added. Still, starting the car requires a laptop and trained technician—true to its race car DNA.

Inside, the Porsche 963 RSP features a motorsport-style cabin with Alcantara trim, leather steering grips, and a removable 3D-printed cup holder. The FIA-approved racing seat, six-point harnesses, and driver-focused controls maintain the performance-focused character, despite minimal comfort upgrades for street use.

Under its carbon-fibre body, the Porsche 963 RSP is powered by a 4.6-litre twin-turbo V8 engine sourced from the 918 Spyder, paired with an 800V hybrid system using a Bosch motor and Fortescue Zero battery.
