The Innova Hycross has made headlines by becoming the first MPV and the first Toyota vehicle to be crash-tested under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP). The MPV delivered an exceptional performance, earning a full 5-star safety rating. In the evaluation, the Hycross secured 30.47 out of 32 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and an impressive 45 out of 49 points in the Child Occupant Protection (COP) category. The top-tier child safety score was aided by ISOFIX mounts and support for recommended child restraint systems, helping the vehicle achieve a flawless 24/24 in dynamic testing.
The car is offered in six trims: GX, GX (O), VX, VX (O), ZX, and ZX (O), with seating options for seven or eight passengers. The ex-showroom price ranges from Rs 19.94 lakh to Rs 32.58 lakh. Buyers can choose from a palette of seven exterior colours, including Super White, Attitude Black Mica, Avant-garde Bronze Metallic, Silver Metallic, Sparkling Black Pearl Crystal Shine, Platinum White Pearl, and Blackish Ageha Glass Flake.
Under Adult Occupant Protection testing, the model scored 14.47 out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier assessment. Most key areas, including the head, thighs, and feet, were rated as offering ‘good’ protection, while the driver’s chest and left shin received an ‘adequate’ score. In the side impact test with a movable barrier, the MPV achieved the maximum 16 points, with consistently ‘good’ ratings across all vital regions. A separate side pole crash test was conducted, where the vehicle received an ‘OK’ grade.
The Hycross continued its strong safety showing in the child protection category, scoring a near-perfect 45 out of 49. It achieved 24/24 in the dynamic crash tests using dummies representing 18-month and 3-year-old children, and also secured 12/12 in the Child Restraint System (CRS) installation evaluation. The remaining 9 points came from the vehicle’s structural and safety-assist evaluation.
