VinFast has recently made its debut in the country’s fast-growing MPV segment to compete against brands like Kia and Mahindra. In this article, we pit the Vietnamese EV manufacturer’s people mover, the VF MPV, against the popular Mahindra XEV 9s. The XEV 9s went on sale in India late last year and yet managed to garner enough traction to surpass the Tata Nexon EV and the MG Windsor EV to become the highest-selling electric car in February. With both offerings targeting family buyers, here’s a closer look at how they stack up against each other across multiple factors.

The VinFast VF MPV 7 is sold as a single, fully-loaded variant for Rs 24.49 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the Mahindra XEV 9s spans a broader price band from Rs 19.95 lakh to Rs 30.20 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant, battery pack, and charger option selected.

The entry-level XEV 9s undercuts the VinFast by around Rs 4.5 lakh, making it the more affordable starting point, while the top-spec versions go nearly Rs 5.7 lakh higher, offering greater flexibility but at a premium for fully-loaded trims.
The XEV 9s measures 4,737mm long, 1,900mm wide, and 1,747mm tall, and has SUV-like road presence, though its 2,762mm wheelbase is relatively shorter. The VF MPV 7 is nearly identical in length at 4,740mm but is narrower and slightly lower, with a more MPV-focused silhouette. However, it stands out with a longer 2,840mm wheelbase.
| Specification | VinFast VF MPV 7 | Mahindra XEV 9s |
| Length | 4,740mm | 4,737mm |
| Width | 1,872mm | 1,900mm |
| Height | 1,734mm | 1,747mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,840mm | 2,762mm |
The VinFast electrified MPV comes fitted with a 60.13kWh battery mated to a single electric motor to produce a maximum power of 201bhp and a peak torque of 280Nm. The car can sprint from 0 to 100km/h in under 9 seconds. It supports DC fast charging, which enables the battery to go from 10 to 70% in just 30 minutes. The range stands at 517 kilometres on the ARAI cycle. The top speed is 140km/h.

In contrast, the Mahindra XEV 9s offers three battery pack options. These include 59kWh with 228bhp, and a range of 521 kilometres, a 70kWh with 241bhp and a range of 600 kilometres, and a 79kWh with 282bhp and a range of 679 kilometres. That said, the value of torque is consistent across all variants at 380Nm. The XEV 9S accelerates from 0–100km/h in 7 seconds, and has a top speed of 202km/h. All battery options support fast charging, reaching 20–80% in just 20 minutes at 140–180 kW.

Both the VF MPV 7 and the XEV 9s are feature-focused SUVs. The VinFast has a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a D-cut steering wheel, drive modes, and a comprehensive safety suite including ESC, TCS, and four airbags. It also gets automatic climate control with rear AC vents, and flexible seating configurations (sliding, reclining, and split-folding seats (60:40 for the second row and 50:50 for the third row).

On the other hand, the XEV 9s positions itself as a more premium and feature-packed alternative, with triple displays, ventilated seats for both front and second rows, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos, Level 2 ADAS, and even an augmented reality HUD, auto park assist, boss mode, and powered memory seats.
