The all-new Volvo electric SUV is all set for its global debut in the summer of this year. The compact EV SUV is said to be a smaller, less expensive electric car with different battery sizes. Although the manufacturer has not disclosed the mechanical specifications of the new SUV, it will be well-equipped for both highway runs and cities. As for the pricing, the details are expected to be announced later. But for now, the electric SUV is expected to come with an entry-level price point. The small SUV is also claimed to offer different range options and price points. Following its global debut, the new EV SUV is likely to make its way into emerging markets by 2024-25, including India, ASEAN, and other Asia-Pacific countries.

The debut of the Volvo EV SUV will reportedly serve as a part of the company's portfolio development plan, which includes the launch of one EV model every year. The move will be important as more emerging markets witness multiple EV launches.

As a step towards its goal of going fully electric by 2030, Volvo launched the first all-electric XC40 Recharge in India last year. Powered by a 78kWh battery, the Volvo XC40 offers a claimed range of 418km on a single charge. It comes with two electric motors, which deliver a combined output of 402bhp and 660Nm of torque. As a result, it can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 5 seconds.

Moreover, the new C40 Recharge and the EX90 SUV are also gearing up for launch in India. Expected to be launched later this year, the Volvo C40 Recharge is based on the same CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform that also underpins the XC40 Recharge. Sharing the same powertrain with the XC40, the coupe electric SUV comes in three trims: Core, Plus, and Ultimate.

It also offers a host of safety features, including a LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensor on the roof.
