Maruti Suzuki — India’s largest carmaker — has made another sales record, becoming the first carmaker to sell a cumulative of three crore vehicles in India till date. This includes sales of all its cars, vans, SUVs, and the Super Carry pickup. The carmaker has achieved this feat in just under 42 years. It comes as no surprise that the most-selling nameplate for MSIL has been that of the Alto, with about 47 lakh units of the hatchback sold here till date. The Wagon R has followed to take up the second spot, with around 34 lakh units sold. Joined by the Swift with roughly 32 lakh units, the top three best-sellers for Maruti have together sold over one crore units amongst themselves.
Maruti has shared some interesting data points that have been monumental in reaching this milestone. It sold its first crore units in 28 years and 2 months, its second crore in another 7 years and 5 months. The third crore units of sales were achieved in just about 6 years and 4 months.

The latest entrant in its lineup was the Victoris compact SUV, which is essentially a reworked Grand Vitara that is being sold through Arena dealerships. The carmaker is expected to launch its first electric car in India — the e Vitara — after much delay, in December 2025. It will be offered with two powertrain options in India, both of them being RWD ones. The AWD version might be launched at a later date.
