Tata Motors Posts 7% Year-on-Year Decline in Domestic PV Sales for August

Tata Motors sold 8,540 EVs across domestic and international markets in August 2025, showing a remarkable 44% increase year-on-year.

Tata Motors sold 73,178 units overall in August 2025, across both domestic and export markets. Of this, 41,001 passenger vehicles (including EVs) were supplied in the domestic market, reflecting a decline of 7% from 44,142 PVs sold in August 2024. While the exports reached 2,314 units from 344 units sold in August of last year, marking a whopping rise of 573% year-on-year. In total (domestic and exports), the sales of passenger vehicles stood at 43,315 units, a drop of 3% year-on-year. 

Despite mixed overall results, Tata Motors delivered a strong performance in the electric vehicle segment. It sold 8,540 EVs across domestic and foreign markets in August 2025, showing a robust 44% increase from the last year's 5,935 units.

Tata Motors Sales August 2025: Commercial Vehicles

The CV segment demonstrated positive growth last month. The sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market increased by 6% year-on-year to 27,481 units, driven by strong performance across categories.

Internationally, the company sold 2,382 units, which is an impressive rise of 77%. Overall, the total commercial vehicle sales climbed 10% to 29,863 units, highlighting the company's strong momentum in the segment. 

Other Highlights

Tata Motors has made a comeback to the South African market, after a hiatus of nearly six years since its exit in 2019. The company has joined forces with Motus Holdings Ltd., a leading distributor in the region, and introduced four models, including the popular Punch SUV and Tiago hatchback. Tata Motors will leverage Motus Holdings’ extensive and expanding dealer network to offer strong after-sales service and a customer-focused experience.

At launch, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) will operate 40 dealerships across South Africa. The company plans to expand this network to 60 outlets by 2026.
