Jaguar I-Pace, Track Test

Despite the diverse line-up of cars that we had at this year’s autoX Mega Test, all of us had extremely high hopes for the Jaguar I-Pace. And while it didn’t disappoint, I must admit that we were a bit startled by the fact that the Jag was a wee bit slower around the short loop than the Audi e-tron – albeit by just one-tenth of a second, but it was slower nonetheless. While the e-tron managed to pip the I-Pace in terms of lap time, in almost every other aspect, the latter came out on top.

Let’s start with the design. Jaguar has done a superb job with the I-Pace’s design – it’s in line with the brand’s design language and yet manages to stand apart from its ICE siblings. The signature front grille, sleek LED headlamps, and the F-Type-inspired wide haunches make the I-Pace look very appealing, especially in this shade of red that you see here.

Let me also remind you that the I-Pace has been around in the international market for over three years, and even today, it looks as stunning as ever! Inside too, the I-Pace feels equally rich and classy, but it doesn’t quite match up to its rivals in terms of comfort. It even loses a few points in the practicality department because the space saver eats into most of the boot space.

Jaguar I Pace Back

The I-Pace exhibits its true strength in the way it drives. The e-Jag is not only lighter and quicker to reach the 100km/h mark than its German rivals but also offers a considerably sharper throttle response. It can be calm like Bruce Banner or rage like the Hulk, depending on how hard you go on the long pedal. And the I-Pace’s handling abilities match its performance too. The controlled manner in which it harnesses all this energy and puts it down on the road is what makes it outstanding. The steering offers good feedback. It corners flat and feels extremely well balanced even when you push it to its limit. With an attractive design, superb quality, brilliant refinement and the overall driver involvement it offers, the I-Pace is, without a doubt, the best luxury EV you can get your hands on today!
