Dusting it away

This month, I had the opportunity to test the Jeep Compass a bit more thoroughly than usual. Since I was visiting my friends who also happen to be off-road enthusiasts, this gave me the opportunity to take the Jeep off-road and test its mettle. Equipped with its standard-fit Jeep Active Drive 4x4 system, the Compass also offers a variety of terrain modes. As we were going off-roading in relatively dusty terrain, I selected the sand mode and with a leap of faith, went off-road. But, I shouldn’t have worried, with its ample ground clearance and fantastic 4x4 hardware, the Compass simply brushed away every hurdle the terrain threw at it. In fact, the system works so well in automatic mode – where it switches between two and all-wheel drive based on traction – that only the hardcore need to even select specific modes.

Logbook

Of course, coming back to Delhi after the off-road sojourn also proved once again that the ride and handling balance of the Compass is simply fantastic. It rides beautifully on our broken roads, and high-speed stability is very reassuring. And paired with its climate control system keeping the cabin cool, the Compass does make for a very strong case for itself as an all-terrain, everyday use SUV.
