Coming to my experience with the car in the past month, the ever-so-eager engine start/stop system has started to become intrusive as the weather warms up.

It’s not everyday that a new car launch makes you want to say, ‘Hey, why am I not driving that already?’ Well, that’s exactly what happened to me when Toyota India announced the launch of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor. If you want to read more about it, head over to our website autox.com to learn about its specifications, variant breakdown, and more. Anyway, back to the Taisor. You see, it is based on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx – one of my favourite long-term test cars – and is meant to be an alternative for those looking for a crossover like the Fronx. However, Toyota has made some minor changes, at best, to make the Taisor stand out. The updates include a different DRL signature, a different grille, differently designed alloy wheels, and ever so slightly updated taillamps.

While I usually like Toyota’s design language, this time, I must say, it’s the Maruti Suzuki Fronx that caught my attention. There’s just something about its three-dot Nexa light signature and alloy wheel design – something that I have liked from the day the car joined our long-term test fleet.

Coming to my experience with the car in the past month, the ever-so-eager engine start/stop system has started to become intrusive as the weather warms up. Last summer, it was quite noticeable as the keen system would cut off the engine even before the car came to a full stop. While this means that the car remains switched off for a longer duration, saving a bit of fuel in the process compared to other cars with less eager start/stop systems, it also means a compromised effectiveness of the air conditioning unit. During the winter, it wasn’t much of an issue, but with peak summer approaching, I think I’ll have to resort to switching off the system for better cooling, even if it’s at the expense of more fuel consumption. For comparison, I have been managing a fuel efficiency of 12.5km/l. This mileage is far from what the Fronx is capable of if the engine start/stop system is used to its full capacity and the car is driven with a light foot. When I did so for the whole month last year, it returned a highly impressive 17.5km/l!
