The World Superbike Championship, also known as WSBK, has been making headlines in India as the famed Super Bike Racing Series will make its way to BIC this year. And we are very excited indeed because a racing series of this caliber deserves everyone’s attention.

The 2013 season got off to a flying start at Philip Island in Australia and it was the superiority of the Aprillia riders that showed why they are the defending champions. In Race 1 the entire podium was shared by the Aprillia riders as Sylvain Guintoli came in first and was followed closely by his teammates Eugene Laverty and Michel Fabrizio who finished second and third respectively.  Sylvia, a French rider won his debut race on the Italian bike after a tight battle with Eugene who gave away the lead just before the end of the race while fending off attacks from Roman rider Michel Fabrizio, also astride an Aprilia RSV4 for Team Red Devils Roma.

In Race 2 Guintoli and Laverty got away from the rest of the pack during the first laps. Further into the race they were followed closely by Marco Melandri and the two private Aprilia RSV4s ridden by Fabrizio, who finshed third in the first race, and Davide Giugliano from Team Althea Racing. However, this time it was the Irishman, Eugene Laverty, who finished the race in first position, giving him his second win with Aprilia. Sylvain Guintoli was unable to keep up with Laverty and finished in a very close second and Marco Melandri finshed third on his BMW. Michel Fabrizio’s fourth place and Davide Giugliano’s sixth confirmed the Aprilia RSV4’s superiority on the track.

Eugene Laverty and Sylvain Guintoli are now tied at 45 points to lead the world championship. Aprilia is at top points in the world Manufacturer championship with 50 points, and the next race will be held at the Aragon circuit this month. The BIC in Greater Noida will host the first ever WSBK race in India in November.
