A provisional four-round calendar for this year's JK Tyre Racing Championship was announced at a press conference in Delhi today.

The championship is scheduled to hold its first round at Coimbatore on the July 19-21 weekend, which will coincide with the third round of the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC).

Both Sanjay Sharma and Prithviraj Siddappa, the respective motor sport heads of JK Tyre and Volkswagen India, were present as both brands announced tweaks to their series aimed at making the racing more attractive to Indian drivers and fans.

Among the changes was the announcement by Sharma that the BMW-engined single seat racing cars, which ran under the JK Racing Asia Series banner in 2011 and 2012, will form a Formula BMW class within the championship.

The Volkswagen Polo R Cup and Formula LGB 4 will complete the roster of racing classes within the championship.

The field of 12 drivers confirmed for the Formula BMW class includes the last two Rotax Max karting champions Vishnu Prasad and Ameya Bafna.

Also included are the erstwhile Formula Rolon series runner-up Saran Vikram and Akhil Khushlani who raced in the JK Racing Asia Series and (as it was known before) Formula BMW Pacific and Formula BMW Asia.

The cars will be prepared and run equally by the Euro International team, which operates out of bases in the United States and Italy.

After Coimbatore, the championship has been scheduled to be run at Chennai's Madras Motor Race Track in August and for two rounds at the Formula-1 grade Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida.

A fifth round scheduled for the September 6 to 8 weekend has also been included on the provisional calendar but the venue is yet to be decided.

If confirmed, it will be the third round of the championship and Sharma announced he was keen for it to be run on a street circuit. Srinagar is one of the venues that has been shortlisted according to Sharma.

The provisional calendar is as follows:

1) Kari Motor Speedway - Coimbatore (July 19-21)

2) Madras Motor Race Track - Chennai (August 9-11)

3) TBC - TBC (September 6-8)

4) Buddh International Circuit - Greater Noida (September 27-29)

5) Buddh International Circuit - Greater Noida (November 29-December 1)
