There are numerous tempting options available in the market now, many of which are relatively affordable. However, if you are looking for your first middleweight twin, you need to give the matter some extra thought. After all, it’s not a decision to rush – get it wrong, and your dream of owning a cool machine can quickly turn sour. </p>
<p>

    Two motorcycles sit squarely in this space, and interestingly, both machines are shaped by fundamentally different approaches to the art of motorcycling. In one corner, we have the fresh face of the Aprilia Tuono 457, the road-biased sibling of the RS 457. Not only is it fast, but it’s also tech-laden. In the other corner, we have the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 – a long-established player in the segment. It might not offer the same amount of technology, but it is much lighter on the pocket and packs an extremely competent engine. <p>Larger-capacity engines tend to produce more heat, which can be especially problematic in traffic. Having experienced the 650cc parallel-twin in various RE motorcycles, I must say that heat management isn’t exactly its strong suit. And given the unforgiving nature of Indian summers, it’s something to be wary of.</p>

<p>Initially, I was of the impression that the Tuono would win this battle, but that’s not exactly the case. Its smaller displacement liquid-cooled engine should have fared better than the Continental GT’s air- and oil-cooled engine. </p>

    However, that did not happen. The Tuono, too, gets a bit too hot when you are stuck in traffic for long durations. So, there is no real winner here. That said, the Continental GT’s design places the rider’s leg closer to the engine, making incidental contact with it more likely.

<p>Weight can be a real point of concern, especially for those riding a bigger bike for the first time. After all, the last thing you want is a bike that’s too heavy for you to handle. At 214kgs, the Continental GT is undeniably hefty, and you can feel all that weight. The Tuono 457, on the other hand, weighs much less – 175kgs to be precise. Consequently, it feels noticeably easier to manoeuvre, especially at parking speeds and in tight spaces.

    Riding Position, Seat Height &amp; Comfort Differences
</h2>
<p>In terms of ergonomics, the Tuono 457 offers a more relaxed riding position than the RS 457. The tube-type handlebars sit higher and are wider, resulting in a more upright posture.</p>

The Aprilia Tuono 457 is the naked twin of the RS 457 – the motorcycle that shook up India’s entry-level supersport segment with its seductive Italian design, hot-blooded performance, and razor-sharp handling, which explains why it won autoX’s ‘Best of 2024’ award, along with the Indian Motorcycle of the Year (IMOTY) title later that season.</p>

<p>Now, as brilliant as the RS 457 is, it’s also unapologetically sporty and aggressive. That’s why Aprilia decided to bring out an easier-on-the-wrist naked version of it this year – the Tuono 457. With its wide and tall handlebar and noticeably more relaxed rider’s triangle, it’s an easier bike to ride for sure. Mechanically, it’s unchanged – you still get the 457cc parallel-twin engine producing 47bhp and 43.5Nm, meaning it’s every bit as punchy and addictive as its faired sibling. Aprilia has, however, tweaked the final drive ratio with an extra tooth on the rear sprocket for quicker intial acceleration, but the trade-off is that it is about a second slower to reach 100km/h. The missing (and slippery) bodywork also plays a part in slightly compromising the top end. <p>That brings us to its styling, or the lack of it. In this area, the Tuono 457 is a bit of a mixed bag. While the overall stance is muscular and purposeful, the front end lacks the sharp, predatory appeal of the larger Tuonos.</p>

<p>On the track, though, the Tuono absolutely redeems itself. The front end feels planted and composed around corners. <p>Overall, the Tuono 457 is a phenomenal naked machine that nails the essentials – a thrilling engine, a dynamic chassis, and everyday usability. It just misses out on being as stellar as the RS 457. And, lastly, Aprilia’s after-sales service and long-term reliability have recently come under scrutiny. Naturally, that dents its score in the practicality category.

Aprilia Tuono 457 at autoX Awards: Best Bikes of 2025 Ranked

With its wide and tall handlebar and noticeably more relaxed rider’s triangle, the Aprilia Tuono 457 is an easier bike to ride for sure.

One of the newer entrants in the performance scooter segment, the Aprilia SR 175 hp-e is an easy machine to understand. Light, agile, and purpose-built, it has a single mission – to feed your need for speed. And it does that with surprising ease, especially when unleashed on a racetrack, where it truly comes alive. It makes 13bhp and 14.14Nm of torque – enough to cross the triple-digit mark on the digital speedometer. Even at 80–90 km/h, the engine doesn’t feel strained, making the SR 175 a surprisingly capable companion for long-distance riding. The digital instrument cluster offers crisp graphics, a clear layout, and plenty of useful data, making it one of the better ones in this class.</p>

<p>On the track, the SR 175 holds its line beautifully around corners, thanks to its relatively long wheelbase and 14-inch wheels. They give it a reassuring sense of stability, whether you’re blazing through bends or gunning it on the highway. The only downside is that direction changes at low speeds can feel a bit lazy. <p>That said, the SR 175 struggles in terms of practicality. The seat is on the firmer side, and the suspension feels rather stiff, both of which make riding it on pothole-ridden city streets a bit of a challenge. </p><p>The headlight is also very disappointing, with both its throw and intensity leaving much to be desired. <p>Unlike most scooters, the under-seat storage is also quite limited, and there are no utility pockets behind the apron either. And the engine, while spirited, transmits some vibrations through the floorboard. But, then, the SR 175 was never meant to be a sensible scooter with mild manners. It’s a scooter with attitude – raw, spirited, and built for those who value excitement over comfort and convenience. And in that regard, Aprilia has nailed it once again.

<p>Aprilia has showcased the SR GT 400 crossover adventure scooter at EICMA 2025, combining daily commuting convenience with light off-road versatility. Taking inspiration from Aprilia’s rally and sport motorcycles, it features sharp bodywork, a three-element LED headlight, and a five-position adjustable windscreen. The SR GT 400 has been developed to serve both urban and long-distance riders, offering a single package that handles city rides and weekend exploration. It is built around a double-cradle steel frame for improved strength and stability. It runs on 16-inch front and 14-inch rear wheels fitted with Mitas Enduro Trail tyres to ensure grip on different terrains. Suspension duties are handled by a 41mm upside-down front fork and twin gas-charged rear shock absorbers with adjustable preload, both offering 120 mm of travel. The scooter also has 190 mm of ground clearance, helping it handle rough roads. Aprilia RSV4 X-GP Track-Only MotoGP Replica Sold Out in Just Two Weeks

Aprilia RSV4 X-GP, the 238 bhp track-only MotoGP inspired techs, sold out in just 14 days, highlighting strong global demand for high performance superbike.

<p><em>The Aprilia RSV4 RF is a street legal bike that is scarily close to its SBK avatar. We experienced a fraction of what it’s capable of at the Kari Motor Speedway, and it left us grinning from ear-to-ear.</em></p>

<p>Ever since the Aprilia RSV4’s debut in 2009, it’s won three rider and four manufacturer titles in the World Superbike championships. After tasting success for six years, the Noale-based company decided to make this mean machine into one of the most advanced track oriented motorcycles on the planet. We got our hands on the RSV4 RF version at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore. No pressure right? The catch wasn’t that I would be riding it on track. No, it was that I’d be riding this 1-litre superbike, with 198 ponies raring to take off, on a tight 2.1-kilometre circuit. Well, as the saying goes, ‘Fortune favours the brave.’ So I decided not to think about the track’s limitation, and suit up instead. After all, I couldn’t wait to find out what this new RSV4 RF was actually capable of.</p>

<p>Before I saddled up, it was time to get acquainted with the RSV4 RF’s electronic wizardry or the APRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) package. It consists of 8-settings of traction control, 3 levels of ABS, and 3 modes of both Launch Control and Wheelie Control. There are also three engine modes – Sport, Track and Race. These three maps offer different engine response, and in Race mode there’s less engine braking above 6,000rpm. It’s also equipped with a quick-shifter that allows you to up-shift without using the clutch. This way you can build speed without closing the throttle. I decided to stick to Track mode, with all the safety nannies switched on.</p>

<p>I took one last look at our steed, as the forged aluminium wheels and fully adjustable Ohlins suspension glistened in the sun. Plus, of course, it had the awesome SBK “Superpole” graphics that gave it that “bad boy” look. The compactness of the RSV4 surprised me, as it felt like a mid-size motorcycle. My first lap was all about getting a hang of the track. After much calculation, not to mention trepidation, I opened the throttle and the well mannered linear response caught me a little off guard. By comparison, the Tuono V4 1100 Factory – which we rode last month – seemed to have a mind of its own, so-much-so that I was scared to poke the monster. But the RSV4 was kind enough to let me take control, or at least it gave me that impression. Aprilia’s 999.6cc, unlike other V4s, is very smooth at the lower end of the RPM range. As Kari is full of really tight corners, on my first lap, I invariably ended up braking a little later than I should have – but the forgiving razor sharp chassis allowed me to effortlessly reel the RF back in line. Also this track is notorious for its bumpy tarmac, but the Ohlins suspension managed to smooth it out virtually completely.</p>

<p>Starting my second lap, I decided to open the throttle and let the exhaust play some heavy metal tunes on the main straight. The first corner is the slowest in Kari, and as you get hard on the brakes the Brembos show their class. It’s as effortless as pulling the brake lever with two fingers, and the bike slows instantly without any drama. First gear is very tall compared to the other 5 cogs, so you can really get moving right from the get-go.</p>

<p>The RSV4 is the king of swing, as it takes corners with a lot of authority. It gives you the confidence to brake and manage the line while you’re leaning into a corner. It manages this ridiculous feat in part thanks to the aluminium frame that houses the engine. Aprilia have also lowered its centre of gravity, making it more agile. Rear grip and stability has also improved thanks to the 4mm long swing-arm. And let’s not forget the Pirelli Diablo Super Corsa tyres that sink into the asphalt, providing tremendous grip.</p>

<p>I have to say that five laps on this track, on this bike, is sacrilege! We should have got at least 10, but then there were more people lined up – with brave pills in hand – to try the RSV4 on the track. The RSV4 RF is the closest thing you can get to a Superbike racer, baring the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R. But the kind of ease with which the Aprilia goes about its business, without scaring the life out of you, is a comforting feeling. The RSV4 is also the lightest bike in its segment, despite being fully loaded with virtually every technological gizmo you can think of. And, with a riding position that’s not as aggressive as the ZX-10R, the RSV4 can be ridden in the city as well without having to forgo your spine. Many will say money can’t buy happiness, but clearly they haven’t ridden the Aprilia RSV4 RF – it’s worth every penny!</p>
