Ducati Monster 821 Highlights
The Monster 821 – a naked 107bhp monster – pays homage to the original ancestor, the Monster M900. Launched back in 1993, it was back then when a couple of Italian engineers gave birth to a new class of motorcycles – the naked sports bike. And that’s how the Monster M900 was born.
The Monster 821, then, is a muscular and curvy motorcycle very identical to the 1200 model. On the design front, the LED headlamp, large fuel tank, trellis frame, a well-crafted exhaust, dual upswept exhaust and a neatly tucked in tail lamp accentuate the basic and elegant design of the Monster 821.
The Monster 821 is a sports naked motorcycle with all the muscles and curves in the right place. The new yellow colour certainly reminds of the original M900. Coming to its exterior dimensions, the naked sports bike is 2,170mm in length, 800mm in width and 1,055mm in height. The bike has a heavy kerb weight of 206kg and a fuel tank capacity of 16.5-litres. Lastly, Monster 821 has a ground clearance of 180mm.
Engine & Transmission
The Ducati Monster 821 features an 821cc L-twin engine, which churns out 107bhp of power and 86Nm of torque. The engine is punchy and there is a strong pull, even from the low end of the rev band. The six-speed manual transmission gets a slipper clutch to prevent wheel lock-up during aggressive downshifts. As for its efficiency figure, the Ducati Monster 821 mileage is expected to be 18.5km/l.
The Ducati Monster 821 has taut handling, and the front end is planted and communicative. The bike is based on a tubular steel trellis frame. The 43mm Kayaba upside-down fork at the front is not adjustable, but the Sachs rear shock features adjustable preload and rebound damping. It gets a 120/70 ZR17 section tyre at the front and a fatter 180/55 ZR17 section tyre at the rear. The braking is in response to dual 320mm disc brakes at the front and a 245mm disc at the back.
The Ducati Monster 821 new model comes well loaded with electronic aids and safety equipment. For starters, dual-channel cornering ABS, traction control, slipper clutch, quick shift up/down, power modes and three riding modes – Urban, Touring and Sport are standard across the range. As for the electricals, the muscular headlamp and the neatly tucked in taillamp are both fitted with LEDs. The instrument cluster is a fully digital TFT colour display, which shows the speedometer, tachometer, odometer, clock, trip and a wide array of rider-centric information.
