The Ducati SuperSport 950 has finally hit Indian shores as a part of the Italian automaker's promise of launching at least ten new models in India within the year. The pricing of the SuperSport 950 in the Indian market is rather steep. But then again, when was the Italian automaker ever about value for money? Ducati classifies the SuperSport 950 as its 'road super bike', thanks to its sport-tourer ergonomics and purposes. So how does the premium sport-tourer offering by Ducati compare to its competitors in the Indian market? Read on for more information on the Ducati SuperSport 950.
For its BS6 version, the Ducati SuperSport 950 gets updated styling. The bike looks more Panigale inspired now and features a rather more aggressive design. This includes redesigned muscular fairings, an aggressive air vent and an intake design to make the bike more aerodynamic and direct air for the rider's comfort. The windscreen has been redesigned by Ducati as well for more aerodynamic efficiency and also gets two-step adjustability.
Powering the Ducati SuperSport 950 is the same 937cc, liquid-cooled L-twin Testastretta motor. Its power delivery is unchanged at 110PS at 9500rpm and 93Nm at 6500rpm. However, the engine has been updated to meet BS6 / Euro 5 emission norms. Supporting the engine is a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch and a bi-directional quick shifter that is standard on both variants of the bike. Safety support in the Ducati SuperSport 950 is provided by traction control, wheelie control and ABS.
Handling set up in the Ducati SuperSport 950 varies between its standard and SuperSport S variant. The standard variant's trellis frame is supported by fully adjustable 43mm Marzocchi USD forks on the front and a Sachs mono-shock on the rear. In the S variant, the SuperSport 950 gets premium 48mm, fully-adjustable Ohlins USD suspension, supported by an Ohlins mono-shock on the rear. Braking is handled by twin 320mm discs with Brembo M4-32 monobloc callipers.
The Ducati SuperSport 950 comes fairly loaded with features and rider aids. The bike gets a Bosch 6-axis IMU platform, with rider aids like cornering ABS, lean-sensitive traction control, wheelie control and an up and down quick shifter. To manage these features the Ducati gets a new 4.3-inch colour TFT display. The bike also gets a complete LED treatment with the iconic brow style DRLs. Other features in the Ducati SuperSport 950 include heated grips, Ducati Multimedia System (DMS) and USB charging socket under the seat, and optional panniers as an accessory. The S variant also gets a seat cowl that can cover the pillion seat.
The pricing of the Ducati SuperSport 950 is rather steep, as the bike finds itself competing with the likes of the higher displacement yet lower priced Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX. The Ducati sport-tourer comes in two variants, the Ducati SuperSport 950 standard variant priced at ₹13.49 lakhs (Ex-Showroom) and the Ducati SuperSport 950 S priced at ₹15.49 lakhs (Ex-Showroom). The bike gets three colour schemes, Ducati Red, Ducati Red - S and an Artic White exclusive to the S variant.
