Gone are the days when Hero MotoCorp was busy producing a million iterations of its commuter bikes, for the manufacturer is now focussing on making an impact in the premium segment. In 2019 alone, the bike-maker released four new 200cc motorcycles, including the Xpulse 200, which won the IMOTY 2020 award.
Further expanding its ‘premium’ product portfolio, Hero has yet another motorcycle in the mix. The bike you see above is the Hero Xtreme 160R, the company’s latest streetfighter (as of mid-2020). The Xtreme 160R is an all-new bike that’s built from scratch.
While it does share its moniker with the larger capacity, Xtreme 200R, the 160R is an all-new motorcycle. In all honesty, it looks and feels more sophisticated than its elder sibling. It has an aggressive streetfighter stance, which makes it look edgy and sporty to the eyes. In case of its dimensions, the 160R measures 2,029mm in length, 793mm in width, and 1,052mm in height. Moreover, it has a ground clearance of 167mm and a kerb weight of 138.5kg.
At the heart of the Hero Xtreme 160R lies a BS-VI compliant 163cc air-cooled fuel-injected engine, which is good for 15bhp and 14Nm of torque. It comes paired to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. The Hero Xtreme 160R mileage, which is expected to be around 45km/l, combined with a 12-litre fuel tank, is ample for long rides.
On the handling front, the Hero Xtreme 160R new model rides on a 37mm telescopic forks suspension setup at the front and a 7-step adjustable monoshock at the back. The bike is built around a tubular diamond frame and it gets its braking power from a standard 276mm disc brake at the front and a 220mm disc at the back – in the top-spec variant, that is. Lastly, the 17-inch wheels are shod with a 100/80-17 tyre at the front and a 130/70-R17 tyre at the back.
As far as safety features are concerned, the streetfighter comes equipped with single-channel ABS as standard across the range. Other features include full-LED lighting, a hazard light switch, a side-stand-engine-cut-off function, and fully-digital instrumentation unit.
