Mahindra XUV500 Highlights
The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 is in its third-generation now. At the time of its launch in 2011, the XUV500 was the only SUV in its segment that offered features and equipment generally found in higher-end vehicles. As a result, the XUV500 straightaway became one of Mahindra’s bestsellers. The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 has continued to be a strong performer in the SUV segment and with the new updates, prospective customers will consider the XUV500 once more. The Mahindra XUV500 price in India starts from ₹ 12.55 lakh (Ex-showroom, New Delhi) for the base W5 variant and the prices of subsequent diesel variants are ₹ 13.81 lakh, ₹ 15.47 lakh and ₹ 16.71 lakh for W7 (MT), W9 (MT) and W11 (MT) respectively. The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 is available with both petrol and diesel engine options.
On the 2018 Mahindra XUV500 new model, most noticeable amongst all the changes is the updated exterior design. The gaudy chrome jaws and the honeycomb grille of the previous model have been replaced by a new mesh-grille that has chrome peppered all around it. The headlights have also been re-profiled as the LED DRLs have moved to the top, while the projector lamps remain more or less unchanged. Projector headlights continue to be offered as standard across the range. The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 ground clearance figure stands at 200mm (approx.). The tyres which come fitted to the Mahindra XUV500 are P235/65 R17s or P235/60 R18s (on W11 (O) variant).
The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 comes in six variants, namely, W5, W7, W9, W11, W11 (O) and G (AT). The top-spec W11 (O) version of the Mahindra XUV500 offers 18-inch, dual-tone, diamond-cut alloy wheels and an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) option. All Mahindra XUV500 variants are available with a diesel engine except the G (AT) variant which only comes with a petrol engine option. As a result, the Mahindra XUV500 on-road price for petrol is substantially lower in comparison to the diesel. All Mahindra XUV500 variants come fitted with ABS, EBD and dual airbags as standard.
The overall interior design of the 2018 Mahindra XUV500 does not feature drastic changes. Unlike the old model’s black and beige upholstery, the cabin now features an all-black theme with silver inserts. The centre console gets a piano-black finish, and the top W11 trim gets tan leather quilted seats and soft-touch leather around the dashboard and door handles.
Engine specifications & performance
The new Mahindra XUV500 continues to be powered by the same 2.2L 4-cylinder mHawk diesel engine, however, it produces more power and torque thanks to tuning upgrades. The G (AT) variant is powered by a 2.2L mHawk turbocharged petrol motor. The petrol engine produces 140bhp and 320Nm of torque while the diesel motor churns out 155bhp and 360Nm of torque. The XUV500 has a more refined powertrain now with the engine tuning upgrades. A 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox is available with all XUV500 variants except the G (AT) variant which is only available with an automatic gearbox.
The 2018 Mahindra XUV500 has an ARAI-certified fuel-efficiency figure of 12 km/l for the petrol and 14 km/l for the diesel engine.
