Bajaj has quietly updated the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z, and the biggest change is under the tank. The bike now uses a new 349.13cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine in place of the older 373cc motor. This move brings the NS400Z in line with the rest of Bajaj’s updated performance line-up, which has already shifted below the 350cc mark to benefit from the lower GST slab. Interestingly, despite the smaller engine and lower tax bracket, Bajaj has decided to keep the NS400Z’s price unchanged at Rs 1.94 lakh (ex-showroom).

The new 349.13cc motor is the same unit that recently made its way into the updated Bajaj Dominar 400. It produces 40bhp at 9,000rpm and 33.2Nm at 7,500rpm, which is down from the older 373cc engine’s 42bhp and 35Nm figures.

While the performance figures have dropped slightly on paper, the bigger difference could come from the way the engine now delivers its power.
Apart from the engine swap, the rest of the bike remains exactly the same. The NS400Z still gets the same perimeter frame, upside-down forks, rear monoshock, dual-channel ABS, ride modes, traction control and aggressive streetfighter styling. In short, if you liked the way the old bike looked and handled, there is nothing new to get used to here.

Even with the smaller engine, the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z still looks like one of the strongest value-for-money performance bikes in its segment. It packs plenty of features, has solid road presence and now joins the rest of Bajaj’s sub-350cc line-up under the GST 2.0 framework.
